Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

YOU SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH!
CURSE YOUR SUDDEN BUT INEVITABLE BETRAYAL! 🦕🦖

Anything older than 20 years is fair game. Firefly fits that. The Matrix. The first Pirates of the Caribbean. We really should be getting SEs of the Prequels.

And it goes without saying that we need SEs of the Star Wars SEs.

"We're Just Making Them Better" ™

ILM also needs to return its Oscars for the Star Wars films.

Oh, is that what we're doing today? We're going to fight?

I don't know what Lucasfilm is planning to release in 2 years, but it isn't the 'original cut' of A New Hope because, as @Reverend said, such a thing doesn't exist.
StarWars.com would disagree with you.

I'm assuming, based on the various info leaked and the plain text of this statement, is that they have been restoring and rescanning the original film, the same film they used for the 1997 SE, and digitally remastering it to match the 1977 release.

The fact that Lucas was tinkering with the movies for the next 30 years after original release is irrelevant.

"Original cut" refers to the 1977 version. We have:
The 1977 release
The redone 1977 release which adds the "New Hope" moniker to fit with The Empire Strikes Back and its opening crawl which foreshadowed the twist by listing itself as "Episode V" hinting at a large backstory
The Special Edition, 1997, which adds new effects, a deleted scene, and introduces the running theme of the 'Han Shot First" scene being altered in some way or manner
The 2004 DVD version, same as 1997 but with botched colour timing and a new model for Jabba during the reinserted scene
The 2011 Blu-ray release, same but with a more comical sound for Obi-Wan's faux Krayt yell
And the 2019 Disney Plus/Blu-Ray rerelease, which is notable for having Greedo get the last word.

When we say "original cut", we're referring to the 1977 version, with or without 'New Hope' moniker.

Bootleg or European? Right next to The Star Wars Holiday Special no doubt.
I'm pretty sure they were bootleg but I could be mistaken. And I see the Star Wars holiday special everywhere. I've had a VHS copy since the late 90s, but never switched to disc because it's readily available on youtube.

At any rate, this is what I was looking for and I found it... :)

Starring Chris in the Morning from Northern Exposure and Minuet from Star Trek: The Next Generation. :)
