Man, no scripted comedies for UKTV? A bit much on their part. And at the age of the actors for this show, it's kind of like giving them the middle finger; by the time they change their minds, they may be too old, have health issues that prevent them, one of them could even pass away.
I just hope they do come back, soon!
I imagine whoever it was who had begun initial conversations with Doug were called into a meeting by their boss (and/or their bosses boss) and told "No more scripted. Cancel any pipeline" rather than strung him along knowing they weren't going to put anything into production.

I'm surprised Big Finish never did Red Dwarf audios. (I went looking to see if they had, and found what I thought was an announcement from 2022, but it was an April Fool's joke.)

That's a good point. Barrie's such a good mimic that he could do the whole thing himself pretty convincingly. Though of course, it would be better to do it full-cast.
Years back when revived on Dave there was talk of a stage show set between seasosn.
I would hope for at least 1 more episode or special just to wrap things up. Get them home, find Kristine Kochanski.
It means no more commissioned by and made for the Dave UK channel. Unless they change their stance. Which is unlikely.
One thing which came out of Doug's recent Reddit AMA was that the BBC was in early talks to be involved with the first Dave series, Back to Earth, but Doug wanted to work only with Dave. Now, all of Red Dwarf is back on BBC's iPlayer. But it read as f Doug has burned his bridges with BBC - and that's IF BBC had any appetite to make new Dwarf.., which brings me to...
There was, a couple of years ago, talk of Rob Grant doing a prequel separately to Doug's ongoing continuations. But that has gone very quiet. I think Grant was said to be working on that with the BBC.
But I think the ongoing (or preceding) adventures of the crimson short one are victim of the significant contraction of the TV production crisis/contraction. There are certainly other distributors out there, but those would need to be up for it, after seeing a robust pitch and business case. And I'd imagine, they'd have to also get (i.e. pay a licence for) the back catalogue as well?
He's done it numerous times in audio books. And Smeg Ups. And Smeg Outs. And the actual show (Queeg for one and there's a smattering of episodes where he does Kryten to mock him, of course).
And I think he also did the VOs for the body snatcher episode.
Perhaps they could do an episode where Dave is made young again by a D.N.A. Machine (using his former D.N.A. Pattern), and marries Kochanski (as in the episode Stasis Leak).

Personally it's the first two. But that just shows my age.I'd say a mod may come along and teleport this to the SciFi forum, but it would mean changing the bulb.
For me Series' 4 and 6 were the best. DNA (S4), White Hole (S4), Psirens (S6), Legion (S6) & Quarantine (S5) are probably my top 5 episodes.
It's all good though. S7 and S8 get a lot of vitriol, but they were OK, just different. Back To Earth aka" "Series 9" gets similar feedback.
Great British humor through and through, with just enough science to keep it sci-fi.
