All the Negative people.

TMP is the most un-Trek like part of the franchise in some ways. Sterile. Bland colors. Few emotions even from human characters.

It is basically a lot of recycling from the prototype for TNG. Where humanity has evolved past [insert everything].

"New Eden" was peak DSC. It felt like TOS and TNG and Pike behaved like an old school Star Trek captain.

The highest compliment that DISCO got was from a friend of mine who complimented Ansom's Pike and then explained a lot of what he disagreed with Spock's portrayal.

"But do you think he's Spock?"

"...Yeah, I do."

I can understand where the negative people are coming from but to me this is easily the best of the new Trek. If it was just a tad more serious it would be perfect.

I was watching Gary from Nerdrotic on this and its becoming obvious that he has to be negative to keep his angry viewers happy. He stated flat out on video and on twitter that lower decks was a total failure when all he had watched is 2 episodes. What is that 46 total min of content? How can you make such a sweeping pronouncement after such a short time?

His channel is now 100% negative. He hasn't posted a positive review about anything in a long long time. Its all bash this, bash that. Oh look another black female as the lead! Its so predictable that you know what he will say before you even go on.

And the live stream comments! That place is filled with so many angry overall people it will make your head spin. If you don't like trump you get attacked immediately. You are not welcome to comment unless you think just like they do.

I am Nerdrotic

I would add that I don't dislike the guy. I just think he's wrong, plain and simple. That and he is now hostage to his audience.

I agreed with his assessment of game of thrones season 8. But over time, since I started watching his stuff in late 2018, he has changed. Has hardened 10x and gone so negative in every video. Its what his audience expects.

Negativity is a festering stew that can't imagine anything outside of itself. It reminds me of the Aesop's fable about the fox and the grapes. When the fox is unable to get to the grapes he immediately judges them to be sour and therefore not worth eating.

I find the same true with the negative websites. They cannot understand the appeal of current Trek and so they must hate it. They alone understand the nature of the work and are the keeper of its purity. Thus, the grapes must always be sour because to change their point of view would require admitting the possibility of being wrong. And that is such a threat to the ego as to be unfathomable.

it's all about getting money from viewers like you :p

Honestly, there's kind of a funny reaction where a bunch of incredibly negative reviews came out from sites usually in lockstep alongside sites that gave very positive ones.

The people then looked at each other in complete confusion.

People who hated DISCO and Picard in unison having very divided feelings about LD.

Negativity works well with the YouTube algorithm. I firmly believe that the Fandom Menace content creators don’t 100% believe the shit they peddle. They’re obnoxious and there are certainly those out there who are naive enough out there to lap up everything they put out (confirmation bias) but I don’t know that their opinions are completely real. They may not like some of this stuff but the degree they do so is just for show. They just know how to game the system.

I agree. I even think they actually enjoy the stuff they’re bashing (I mean they ARE watching all that stuff they claim to hate so much and I sincerely doubt they’d do that if they really hated it because if they did they just wouldn’t watch it) - it just pays a lot more to cater to a hateful audience because a video title like “STAR TREK PICARD: CANCELLED?” brings in a whole lot more attention/clicks/money than “Star Trek Picard: Here’s what we know so far about season 2”. And now that they have created an audience that needs their daily dosage of hate and that rallies around them and spreads their crude theories everywhere and lures in new people every day (we see it even here on this board, there’s always someone who posts a link to one of their sites and is like “is this true???”), they’re not gonna stop any time soon. It’s too lucrative financially. The fact that they probably enjoy at least some of the new shows is beside the point - all that matters is clickbait money.

My negativity.. if that's the word you want to use to sum me up... stems form the fact that I actually care about this franchise. I've cared about it my whole life. I hardly remember a time when Star Trek 2 was unseen by me, and it is one of the best films I think I'll ever see. I remember then going to high school and college and really like TNG-era Trek.. loved the life on a ship stuff as well.. but even loving that stuff, sometimes the premises of episodes would feel like fluff pieces.. like.. I'd agree with Kevin Smith "Would you fire at a Klingon or something".. like I would miss the edge that TWOK seemed to have naturally. But even then TNG still took it's characters and situations relatively seriously, and the details added to the scope.. and it's for precisely these reasons that a 25 minute show where people are delivering lines at what seems to 1.5 speed, where everything is drawn to look so simple and childish..that I feel it's as far from from that kind of naval "edge" that tWOK had as you could go. The stories are ok actually, but just the execution is so unappealing to me personally . I do think.. despite me not liking the characters (Mariner, Boimler, and the senior staff) very much, this show could work as a live action series with 43 minutes, where the jokes can be paced well and the dialogue can feel more genuine. Here is my comparison: when Braga and Moore were first given the assignment to write Generations, which was to have Kirk and Picard meet, Braga said on the commentary that the first thing he does is create an image.. in fact.. and image of what a movie poster could be like, and he imagined one of the two enterprises locked in battle "kirk vs Picard.. this summer" but alas thaey didn't make that movie. Later in the commentary, during the scene where they are actually making eggs together and Braga said "I think [the audience] wanted something a little more high octane than hanging around the house, making eggs, and it's as far from the poster that he imagined. This series, LD, is just veering far away from Trek as it could be, mainly because of how quick it is, how it is drawn, how trivial it makes everything feel (from exploration, to first contacts, etc). Not to bring up the other show.. but the Orville managed to mix comedy that might not work for some people, but to me it never made the actual stories seems less substantive. F

^ Exactly. I'm sorry, but I'm kinda at the end with my patience for this:

I specifically asked you to stop bringing up The Orville, just a handful of posts back and the other day here. It was an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you are here to have an actual discussion about Lower Decks, to show some consideration for the rules and the willingness to not constantly derail threads. But it seems like you either just can't help yourself or you just don't want to listen. This is why I'm now handing out a warning for trolling. In the – hopefully not vain – hope that you reconsider your approach here. We won't stand by watching you derail thread after thread with constantly talking about The Orville or Mary Sues. Comments to PM.
