All the Negative people.

The Orville is to much a love letter to TNG to ever truly be a template for modern Trek but that said we have seen good examples to create more positive Trek shows. Lost in Space, Agents of Shield the Kelvinverse and basically the entire MCU. It's not really that hard to take a less cynical approach towards exploring issues if you want. Optimism is a timeless concept. Their is middle ground being dark and edgy and naive or preachy.

I think DSC and Picard both fall in that middle ground. I think that Lower Decks will be more to the naïve and preachy side.
I guess I'll just add that while it conforms to the 90s model, the devil is in the details and there are many differences. I just appreciate that I can focus on the drama in the one or two camera set ups . I just don't think Trek via game of thrones model has really worked for Disco
And that's completely fair. I think Discovery has suffered from BTS difficulties and needs to find its footing. But, I think as far as characters go Discovery hits it for me, while Orville gets me for maybe an episode and I don't want to revisit.

I think Discovery does but Picard is pretty violent. I don't think it's HBO level of mature but it's pretty dark.

I think the "hate" has more to do with Kurtzman being attached to the show, as a showrunner, than the actual content, which, I think is unfair. A show should stand on its own, and be critiqued as such. And the funny thing about all this? This show being compared to TAS, which, in spite of how I enjoyed it, did have recycled animation and stilted dialogue.

People don't just like it because they don't like Discovery. Many Discovery fans even like it. I think most people just like to bring it up mostly because it's just kind of fun to sort friendly tease people with. It's made the list! The list you might want to know is this.

1 Tuvik
2 No money in Starfleet
3 Starfleet is not a military
4 Midnight Edge
5 Kathleen Keenedy
6 Gene's Vision
7 Canon
8 Head Canon
9 The REAL Klingons
10 Brian Brophy
11 Robau
12 Rick Berman and Braga( well Braga sort of has fallen off in recent years)
13 Burnham as a Mary Sue or just boring.
14 The pilot character on Enterprise that nobody can ever remember his name.
15 Cussing on CBS Trek
16 Alex Kurtzman
17 The Shat Man because the Shat Man is always going to be The Shat Man

Jason

This list is clearly nonsense because Brian Brophy is number 1 on every true list

mayve it's both. I mean.. the show itself doesn't look like something worth investing time and thought into

I'm not 100% sure Lower Decks will be for me but it looks like it could be fun and I will, for sure, give it a shot. While neither Disco nor Picard have been perfect, I've been entertained by both even if they're not exactly what *I* might want in a series.

I think Oddball said it best
