All our yesterdays. Possibly the saddest Star Trek episode ever.

I just can't get behind the rest of the episode, though.
- Beta Niobe is hours from going nova, and Starfleet sends one starship?

They were the "only ship in the quadrant."

- When they land, Spock's tricorder doesn't detect any lifeforms, including the real Mr. Atoz?
Spock was pointing it the wrong way.

- Spock is reverting to the savagery of Vulcans of 5,000 years ago? Why doesn't McCoy have any urges to build pyradmids or worship golden calves? ...the way it was done doesn't make sense.
Them crazy Vulcan's and their telepathy. He was probably feeling the barbaric vibes, like he felt the crybaby Vulcans on The Intrepid.

Needless to say, I made all that up.

Works for me! :techman:

I love how Scotty is always right by the phone throughout the episode when Kirk calls...until the very end. Kirk calls, Spock and McCoy have this 45 second conversation, we get back to Kirk who's still trying to reach him! How funny would it be to slightly edit this episode so it looks like Scotty took off and ditched them there?

"Scotty, are you still there?"

"F him!"

But...but...then we would have never known the wonders of "Turnabout Intruder"!

It was really sad. I've just finished reading Yesterday's son, although not cannon it is set on the events of that episode and Spock's son Zar. It was also very sad, I got teary eyed whilst reading it. I've just started to read A time for yesterday the sequel to Yesterday's son.

Spock was pointing it the wrong way.

I was thinking about that the other day while rewatching "Requiem for Methuselah." In several episodes, Spock holds the tricorder upside down. He's either very good at reading upside down, or the tricorder's display shifts orientation based upon how it's being held, like today's iTouch.

I watched "All Our Yesterdays" a few days ago. I was curious why Spock and McCoy's phasers didn't work in the Ice Age, but McCoy's medical scanner does.

Phasers are weapons; the medical scanner is not. Or maybe they operate on such different frequencies that the Atavachron only recognized that it should disable the phasers from working. [/speculation]

Makes sense. You would want to avoid people going back with advanced weapons and potentially changing the future. I'll buy that answer!

Watching Zarabeth's expression as she walked away from Spock and McCoy is possibly the saddest moment in all of Trek. :(

What I find sadder is the way Spock glances at McCoy after they go back through the portal. You can only see it for a milisecond, but Spock looks like he's about to cry. :( Then he pulls himself together and gets all Vulcan again.
