Alien Eye for the Human Guy...

Nerys Ghemor

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So...I got this idea from a discussion in another thread. I'm curious to know, in your mind, which Trek species (Federation/Earth included) has the most attractive aesthetics? This can be architecture, fashion, you name it. And what is it you like the most about it?

I really like the Bajoran aesthetic. I love the flowing, almost zen-like curve to the buildings, and the gardeny design.

I know it wasn't a popular film, but they sure made an attractive looking town for the Baku in Insurrection.

I love Cardassian designs- there's sort of an art deco feel to their buildings and decor. Not too keen about the Cardassian fashion sense, though.

I like the Dominion (tho not the Founders) fashion sense- both the original Jem'Hadar uniforms (maybe they seem better compared to the Starfleet pajamas and whatever those shirts are the Cardassians wear... LOL ) and the fancy clothes the Vorta always have on- even if they're scrounging around wreckage, they're well tailored.

I like the gardens on Bajor- interesting how fast and well done they are from springing up after the Occupation- look at Kira's father's grave even.

As for architecture... I'm not sure...

I like Breen and Dominion ships- the design is menacing. Then again- the Birds of Prey have patterns painted on them which is a nice touch.

Cardassian and Bajorans for architecture, they had some cool distinct style and class. The Romulans had some really freakin spiffy uniforms in Nemesis, but other than that, I can't say much for their fashion sense (other than, ug, shoulderpads). For starship exteriors, of course the aesthetic win goes to the Federation, with the Romulans and Klingons trailing a close 2nd and 3rd.

Starship Design: Borg Queen's Diamond

Fashion: Vulcans - Ambassador T'Pel

Architecture: Romulans - Jarok's Spires

Decor: Cardassians - Iliana Ghemor's Home

Dining: Romulan - Toreth's Table, Viinerine, etc. & Bajoran - Jumja Sticks

Art: Bajoran Religious

Glad I'm not the only one who thought "Deco" upon seeing Cardassian architecture! That was my first reaction, perhaps since Deco happens to be my favorite real-world architectural style. I think why I like Cardassian architecture is a lot like why I think things like this are gorgeous:

As for Cardassian fashion, I don't see what people find so objectionable to it (unless you're counting that unfortunate design from "The Wounded," which I suspect even the Cardassians themselves didn't like :cardie: )...I think it fits them very nicely. Garak in particular had a few that were quite flattering. Plus it looks like it would keep you warm in environments where the public areas are probably kept at bone-chilling temperatures because SOMEBODY keeps complaining that they're hot no matter what you do...

The other real favorite, architecture- and clothing-wise, has got to be Vulcans. There's something so regal about those robes in their more recent appearances, and I also love their writing system as well as the architecture we saw in Enterprise.

I think I'm a sucker for austere, desert architecture.

Anyway, I also have to give a special shout-out to the most recent Romulan uniforms. Those look pretty nice, and they also win in the starship department. :)

Bajor's pretty nice, too, although I tend to find other environments more attractive (especially deserts and rocky, dangerous-looking beaches).

What's to hate? The helmet thingy, the mutton chops... IT'S GOLD.

I really like Star Fleet Headquarters, I live about 60 miles south of where it is located, and when I get up to the city I can't help but look over to where it is and wonder, if only...

The Founders Homeworld is pretty cool, that sea of glowing goo would be something to behold.

The planet in Voyager episode "Blink of an Eye"

The planet of water in Voyagers "30 Day's"

Unimatrix Zero: When they show it from above it looks like it would be a great place to spend time while you are in your alcove.

Finally, Risa, what better place to hang out in Federation Space, computer controlled climate, nothing there but having fun with beautiful people :)

Hmm...I found Risa to be quite bland. But then again, I think the same thing of similar environments in real life.
