Alien 4: Resurection.. any films similar to it?

I've read there were plans for an ALIENS cartoon at some point, presumabely based on the early 90s action figure line. However that never materialized. (There was some controversy back then about 'toons being based on scary or R-rated movies, like the Rambo cartoon; the same thing sunk the Jurassic Park cartoon as well).


There's some decent Alien comics from Dark Horse. The early ones were made between Aliens and Alien3 and are the continuing adventures of Newt, Hicks, and later Ripley when the Aliens manage to invade Earth. However, later editions (and the novels) re-edit these to better fit within Alien3's continuity by changing Newt and Hick's names and making Ripley an android.

The Aliens/Predator stuff also got it's start in the comics as well before the crossover films.

Predators was the most recent installment and Prometheus will be the prequel to Alien with Ridley Scott returning to the series.

Is it definitely going to be an official prequel, or a "kinda sorta" quasi-prequel which might not be fully in the same continuity? I haven't been keeping up.

No, Jason X is not a good movie. But if you enjoyed Alien: Resurrection, then what the hell, go for it.

Event Horizon is awesome. A very unique blend of outer space adventure and horror.

Pitch Black is good, too. Nothing particularly amazing, but entertaining.

I hated Event Horizon because it was gratuitously gory without any good reason plus it had such hamfisted 'shock' moments (usually heralded by a loud noise) that even the horror was sub-par.

Pitch Black was great. Silly but great.

Not sure if its quite what you're looking for but there is an upcoming film, Apollo 18, that appears to mix horror and sci-fi.

Moon, was a sci-fi mystery film, that you might want to check out. For Earth based stuff, perhaps John Carpenter's The Thing. The remake is coming this year.

I really liked Pandorum. Though Event Horizon had great sets, good FX, I never got into the story. I also thought Pitch Black was great and enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick.

Doom, with The Rock and Karl Urban, is similar to the Aliens films, IMO, though I didn't think it was that good. You might have a different opinion though. The movie Outlander is like Predator with Vikings. I was intrigued by the premise but couldn't get into it.

You might also enjoy the Aliens v. Predator films. I didn't care for the first one, but really liked the second one. And if you haven't seen the Predator films, I recommend checking out all three. I liked the first two better than the last one, Predators (I know I'm probably in the minority in that opinion).

Event Horizon is one of those movies that's pretty interesting and occasionally gripping for quite a bit but then collapses into lowest common denominator nonsense in the third act. Stargate is similar in that respect as is Sunshine, though the latter is not quite as hopeless.

All of Firefly/Serenity. Personally I don't consider Alien 4 a great film but Joss and co had a long way to climb back up from the debacle of Alien 3

I loved Alien 3. Alien Resurrection, however, I wasn't that crazy about. It's my least favorite of Whedon's work not counting the original Buffy movie which he disowns. For once I don't think the humor fit the situations and was a bit jarring.

... but it's not Ripley. It's a clone of Ripley. Ripley 2.0, another person. The original Ripley died sacrificing herself in Alien 3. Yet everyone seems to treat it as if Ripley came back to life, which is not the case.

You're obviously right, but she still had the memories of Ripley, which is why I found those "Ripley moments" pretty interesting.

any way, i'm gonna re-watch aliens. could anyone tell me the scene where the guy says "it's game over man. it's game over." ? what time was that?

Event Horizon is Shakespeare compared to Alien Resurection. At least it has good quotable lines. And the ship looks cool.

I was going to say, Alien Resurrection had characters very similar to the Serenity crew. The Firefly 'verse is dark and gritty, like the Alien universe.

I don't remember much about AR, to be honest. The only thing that sticks out to me was the over the top gore, which I found distasteful.
