Alan Moore doesn't want Watchmen back

A sequel? To Watchmen? What the hell could it possibly be about?:wtf:

I begrudgingly admit that a prequel could be sort of doable, but it would be pointless, given that all of the interesting backstory about the Minutemen and the 2d generation's 1970s careers was already mined in the panels of Watchmen's twelve issues and even moreso in the back-page documents.

And the really terrible thing is that no one whose story was worth reading would dare to touch the project. It's not just the affront to Moore in and of itself--in the configuration space of ideas, one might suspect there's some possible Watchmen sequel that would make a worthy successor to the original. But the fact that the effrontery would almost certainly guarantee the resulting story would be done only by a hack, who could produce only garbage, makes me just want to shake my head that anyone would even conceive of the idea.

Yeah, "dopey" is probably the most optimistic forecast of a prequel or sequel.

P.S.: All that said, I would totally like to see the Watchmen Saturday morning cartoon get made for real.

Well you could always do the sequel about the world discovering Ozy's scheme. Or about Manhattan returning to Earth with his new race in tow.

Some people still seem to think Moore is being stubborn, but I'll join in with those who say "good for him". He has great integrity.

Yeah, Watchmen stands on its own. There could be some value in sequels/prequels in terms of fan service, but it's hard to imagine any expansion of the Watchmen universe as anything but superfluous.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I would gladly read a Nite Owl/Rorschach team-up series set during their prime crime-fighting days.

“They offered me the rights to Watchmen back, if I would agree to some dopey prequels and sequels,” Moore told Underwire today. "So I just told them that if they said that 10 years ago, when I asked them for that, then yeah it might have worked. But these days I don’t want Watchmen back. Certainly, I don’t want it back under those kinds of terms."

I say, "good for him".

I say "He's a pretentious douche".

Those are set ups, but could you really work a good story from them? More to the point, could you get a better story than the original from them?

Oh my God. They will do anything for profit these days, won't they? I hope the hack they get to write this crap gets blacklisted.

Didio is one thing, but I'm ashamed that Jim Lee might actually be involved in this somehow.
