What a spectacularly, hilariously terrible show.
The finale, true to form, was awful. So much stupid.
So, Ahsoka, as the "padawan of Anakin" was so predictable because she....rode in a straight line to try to find Thrawn. And Thrawn, being the stable tactical genius that he is, outsmarted her by...flying away.
Once on board Thrawn's ship, Ezra did literally nothing. No attempt to sabotage anything, just a quiet escape.
And how did Ezra find the Republic fleet, exactly? And why didn't he, I dunno, radio ahead?!? Instead, he shows up in an imperial ship, still wearing stormtrooper armor with helmet on to disembark into a bunch of Republic goons with guns just for a ....dramatic reveal?
And all Baylan does this episode is visit the Old Man in the Mountain and stare into space. Uh, what? Ray Stevenson, you deserved SO much better. Hey, kids, this is why you don't create entire seasons of TV that are just set up for something else. Good god.
This had some of the most comically incompetent action in SW history. The first lightsaber fight against the troopers was astonishingly inept.
And then we get literal zombies. Sigh. But, despite all the heroes being armed with lightsabers, no one thinks to maybe cut off their damn legs? I was screaming at the screen. Cut off the legs! One leg. A foot, even. I guess the show, being a kids' show on Disney, couldn't be too gruesome. But it was just so, so dumb watching them uselessly hack at the troopers' torsos again and again with no effect.
Morgan Elsbeth. Has there ver been a less intimidating, less charismatic villain in the star wars canon? Nope! What a total snooze. Thrawn is only slightly better by default. The vaunted genius who never does antying remotely impressive or smart other than the most obvious thing.
And, of course, when all is said and done, this show was nothing more than a mindless franchise extension and completely pointless 8 episodes of wheel spinning that exist only to set up a future project. It's the most disposable bit of SW content probably ever.
You could easily skip this and go to whatever is next without missing anything remotely important. (and that's not even mentioning how bad the pacing is, how what little story there is in this show could have easily been told in half the episodes.)
Filoni needs to be put out to pasture yesterday. Despite a body of good work on SW in the past, he's now an embarrassment who's dragging down the franchise as a whole.
How sad that the SW franchise as a whole would be in a much better place if 60% of its recent live action content simply didn't exist.
While this post was inspired by certain posters on this thread, it's meant in more general terms, and is not specifically targeted at them.
I have a piece of advice for you, if you hate a show so much STOP FUCKING WATCHING IT!!!! Seriously, I really don't understand why the hell people keep watching a show when they hate it so much. Why would you choose to torture yourself like that? Why waste time a show you don't like, when there are so many other great shows out there?
And to be honest, it's just annoying as hell when you (generic you, not anyone specific) keep coming back week after week with the exact same complaints, and it distracts from the conversations those of us who like the show are trying to have.
So please, just fucking stop.
The unintended consequences of this trend is that it's going to destroy the long tail of these shows. It kills rewatchability. Look, some amazing shows in the past 20 years have been heavily serialized and some awful shows have taken the wrong lessons from all that.
But particularly with genre shows, it's problematic. Everyone loves going back to rewatch their favorite episodes of Star Trek or TNG or whatever.
Who's going to go back and watch just one episode of Picard or Discovery in a few years? You know, episode 6, which is just....a tiny chunk of story wedged between two other tiny chunks?
As much as I decried the children's book level storytelling of "The Mandalorian", at least those episodes were distinct and each one had a beginning, middle and and end. If you didn't like one, the next one could be different and better.
People will still be watching TOS, TNG, etc. in 30 years. No one is gonna be rewatching Disco or Picard or arguably Ahsoka.
I've got to disagree, there are plenty of serialized shows where I've gone back later and rewatched an entire season. No, you can't just kill an hour with a random episode, but the whole seasons are just as rewatchable as a single episode would be. I'll definitely be rewatching Disco, Picard, and Ahsoka at some point.
Has this been posted yet?
The Ahsoka 1986 opening credits.
That was kind of fun, but I would have liked it better if they did it seriously.
As for droids, they are sliced and diced every which way indiscriminately, even though droids are definitely portrayed as being sentient beings in SW. (Certainly more "alive" than friggin' zombies.)
So, what was your point, again?
Censors have always allowed a lot more violence against robots in kids shows. There are a lot of old cartoons where they made bad guys robots specifically show they could show the heroes using more violent methods to deal with them.
Now my thoughts on the finale.
Overall, I really enjoyed it, just like the rest of the series, but I was a little annoyed by how open ended it was. I knew there was a chance they'd leave some stuff open, but I would have liked the have seen more stuff tied off, since we don't know for sure if we're going to get a second season. I was least hoping we'd get a tight conclusion to Baylan's storyline since that would mean they wouldn't have to deal with Ray Stevenson's death.
The stuff with the zombie troopers was pretty cool.
I loved the fight scene between Morgan and Ahsoka, although I was a little disappointed they killed Morgan, I was hoping she'd stick around.
Having Thrawn and Ezra make it home, while Sabine and Ahsoka were left behind was a nice little reversal of where we started the series.
I almost missed the Morai cameo, I had to let the dogs out and forgot to pause and barely caught a glimpse of her when I went back to the TV.
So the statues were of the Mortis family, I only noticed The Father, and I couldn't figure out why he looked familiar.
I was a little surprised we didn't see Zeb, I hope we get at least one appearance if we get a second season.
