Spoilers Ah, the NEW uniforms...!

One of the more ridiculous techobabble things to come out of VOY. The crew can connect alien tech with barely any point of reference but it's own systems can't be adapted?

Yes, that was a bit dumb... still, we HAVE seen that in Season 5, episode 'Night', 7 and Paris tried rerouting power from the holodeck into the auxiliary systems... but failed because the hologrid was frozen.
I think its implied here that from Season 1 to Season 5, the crew managed to get the power from holodecks compatible with the rest of the ship (which is odd considering that fusion generators and M/AM is usually used for power generation on board.

Really? So they can reroute power from the holodecks to vital systems?? What genius thought that up?

Anyway, I figure the same matter & energy it takes to create their current uniforms could be used to create the new FC uniforms. No extra power needed. So Voyager deliberately kept the old uniforms.

Generally yes, Voyager crew could have easily put their uniforms into the replicators, recycled them and get new uniforms as used in late DS9 and movies (from First Contact onward).
But its possible there was no real need for them to change the uniforms. The existing uniforms they had worked just as well.

We have seen that different ships can use different uniforms.
I guess it depends on the style which is common on that starship (either as the senior officers agree to it), or its possible they get standing regulations from Starfleet HQ chief quartermaster?

DS9 used late TNG uniforms and then switched to the movie style ones in Season 4 or 5.
Even in Star Trek Lower Decks, we've seen the Cerritos crew using different uniforms than the ones used on USS Titan.

I guess it doesn't matter which uniforms are in use, so long as they are Starfleet approved... but obviously, a certain uniform DESIGN seems to remain constant per ship (otherwise, you'd see a ton of different crew members running around in different SF uniforms... heck, maybe they do but we just don't see them).

I mean, I've seen that in Trek since TOS. I was rewatching "The Man Trap" and was highly amused by background extras walking around in "The Cage" style uniforms. Also, Generations was the more famous offender.

Early TNG had different uniform styles at the same time on the Enterprise-D.
Some men wore dresses while others wore regular pants (or skin tight spandex).

I count those as being the same style. No different than women in the modern military opting for a skirt or pants.

To be honest, I would have liked something completely different when it came to Federation uniforms, rather than a "continuation" of clean lines and relatively minimalist design.

I mean, maybe ornament came back in? Maybe Starfleet went through a period where waistcoats were a big deal? Why does "futuristic" have to travel in some sort of straight line?

Lt. Willa's uniform is too reminiscent of the awful 'Motion Picture' uniforms. Starfleet seems to go through phases where they completely lose any sense of fashion design apparently, even in the 32nd century (maybe they hired me, I've been told I have no fashion sense :D )

I think the notion of the "skant" (along with other early TNG oddities) was more exclusively about Roddenberry's (vision) agenda than anything else, which may or may not be related to any greater social agenda at the time or thereafter. I think most folks just simply chalk that one up with his "love instructors" concept and should never again see the light of day.

I used to dislike the skants, but I've come around on them. I hope we see them again one day. Deconstructing old gender roles is a good thing.
One was in the background of the Short Trek "Ask Not", so I presume the legacy will live on in Strange New Worlds.

I would prefer Capri's for everybody and wear boots underneath so that the high length of the boots gets shown while the very top edge of the boots gets covered by the Capri's bottom edge.

I would want the length of the Capri's to be half way down between the knees & the ankles.
Rafael Nadal's Capri's are a bit to short in the pic above, I would want it a bit longer, but not long enough to be full blown trousers/slacks.

well, given the quantity of failed relationships and people hurt stupidly some might argue that the figure of love instructor might be useful to society after all...

I don't think "love instructors" are going to help improve relationships. I think understanding humans might do a lot towards building relationships.
