Agents of SHIELD: Season 6

Well, that was an exciting conclusion to the cliffhanger, if not the storyline. This season's plot seems to have segued from one Big Bad to another without actually switching gears. Sarge and his commandos are (apparently) defeated and the Shrikes are (apparently) eliminated, but Punk Alien Chick is unaccounted for-- and May is acting a bit oddly, what with the whole cold-blooded execution thing. Does Punky possess people or is she a shape-shifter? An illusionist? Or is this a red (or pinkish) herring? Maybe May has a duplicate just like Coulson does, and we're heading into phase three of this year's grand epic. And even though Sarge has (apparently) been killed, I don't think Clark Gregg is gone, so what happens next? Sarge gets better? A new Sarge pops up? A different but equally identical duplicate appears? The real Coulson returns? The mystery of the multiple Coulsons isn't over.

Other than that, there were several surprising developments. Sarge basically lost by losing control of his team. He outright killed one of them, which I'm sure contributed to Big Bearded Guy switching sides, and his abandonment of Snowflake caused her to switch sides. And she didn't seem too keen on becoming a butterfly when it came right down to it. I wonder what will become of her now that she is in SHIELD custody and kind of has a thing going with Fuzzy Guy.

And it turned out that SHIELD was perfectly capable of defeating the Shrike menace without Sarge's help, thanks to Daisy using her Quake powers to obliterate the swarm-- although that solution felt kind of unsatisfying to me. I think they may have had to cut some of that sequence for time or something, because it was over rather quickly and the number of Shrike that came through the doorway didn't seem to match the swarm in the sky. What happens if some of them flew off? Are they able to reproduce on their own? Will they just possess random people and go dormant without Punky to trigger them, eventually startling a bunch of morticians way down the road?

And Fitz finally met his grandson from another timeline who he already met in yet another timeline but doesn't remember because he died after marrying Gemma in that one. Poor Fitz needs therapy at this point.

But the best part, of course, was that Mack and YoYo are back together. Now the show should just leave them alone and leave FitzSimmons alone-- they've suffered enough. Stick to fighting supervillains! :rommie:

Damn, I'm sorry to lose Davis, because like others already mentioned, I've enjoyed his regular-guy nature and his brotherly banter with Piper. I initially thought Izel took over his body (I never thought a fake-redheaded Russian was her natural form after all) like the Shrikes, but after seeing what May did in the stinger, shape-shifter seems more likely (assuming that was actually Izel). Either way, Davis is more than likely dead.

I'm glad to see the team together again (aside from Coulson) and hopefully it'll last longer this time around for the remaining episodes of the season. Things have been sooo crazy in the last few seasons that the team has barely had anytime to sit back and relax since...what? The Darkhold? Fuck. Everyone deserves an extended vacation from everything.

I also thought the way Daisy destroyed the Shrikes was poorly presented. I get the idea that she has mastered her abilities, but we didn't even see the any kind of shimmering in the air (like we saw moments before when she protected the bomb) nor heard anything. The Shrikes simply disintegrated as if they were dusted by the Snap.

Mack used to be that "regular guy", though that kind of went away after a season or two, and it's definitely long gone now that he's director.

Punk Alien Chick = Izel, Big Bad Guy = Jaco, Fuzzy Guy = Deke

Neat idea, but it seemed to be shot wrong or positioned wrong, and it wound up looking like she only killed 5 of them, instead of the whole flock of hundreds which I think is what was supposed to happen.

I never thought she was supposed to have destroyed the whole flock. Any group of animals with a shred of survival instinct will recoil from an obvious threat, so I assume the flock halted their attack when they saw that the ones in the lead were getting disintegrated.

but it's consistent with the producers saying they tapped the brakes on the timeline and this season takes place prior to Infinity War.

Which makes no sense, since last season's climactic episodes had the Confederacy guys and Talbot talking explicitly about the fact that Thanos was in the process of attacking Earth right then. I don't see any way to retcon that as happening a year earlier.

I figured the SHIELD peeps we know got snapped and we're picking up a year after the five year jump. It can't be presnap no matter how you cut it. A year after the Snap makes no sense either cause shit is too normal.

It could, since we've seen little of everyday life beyond the SHIELD team. I sort of think that maybe one year after, everyone could still be in denial and trying to carry on with normal life as if the Snap hadn't happened, but by year 5, things are falling apart more around the world and resignation and despair have set in.

I think Gregg had already said 6&7 were all they they were getting, so not surprised to see it officially announced.

Yeah, that was pretty much what I expected from the moment they announced a 7th season.

Considering I was fine with season 5 being the end, I'm fine with this and hopefully the show goes out in a bang!

I also hope we get to see plenty of old faces on the way out, including Bobbi, Lance, Andrew, Deathlok (the character who should've always been a regular but never was), and maybe even Calvin.

Andrew Garner? He's dead. We're more likely to see Ward again.

I just hope they can make a finale that lives up to "The End", which was a perfect finale and will be hard to top.

Damn, did he die? I thought he was still out there somewhere? Huh. Clearly a rewatch is in order.
