Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

I know I miss things easily some times. But it wasn't until I was making a new banner for a website using Zephyr One as a base that I noticed her overhead profile is basically a giant flying version of the SHIELD emblem. I mean it makes sense, being Coulson's baby and all.

Haven't caught up on the new episode yet but I'm not enjoying the mediocre reaction to it so far.

Have Gun, Will Travel. :p

Glad I'm not the only one who found this episode a little unengaging. But despite all of the really obvious gestures, I did find the end to be emotionally effective...I mean, if Mack's gonna cry....

I'm pretty sure Firefly counts as a mercenary centric show, no?

Personally, my fuzzy idea for the format would be somewhere between the Borne movies and the old Bixby 'Incredible Hulk' series...which was basically 'The Fugitive' with green body paint. So more accurately: 'The Fugative' with kung fu...oh wait...

^^ Hart To Hart meets The Fugitive plus Kung Fu?

Well. Hunter and Bobbi have now been spun off. It seems a little premature, but maybe they will appear again to set up the actual show. And then return when the show bombs. Hopefully, they won't just be The Ropers of SHIELD. How many old-show references can I squeeze in here?

But that was a pretty sad farewell, and especially poignant given Hunter's conversation with May. The "spy's good-bye."

Actually, after watching that, I'm looking forward to watching their show a little bit more.

It's odd but I usually thought of those two as being more freelancers on retainer than in SHIELD for the long haul.
They portrayed Bobbi as SHIELD through and through, going undercover as part of The REAL SHIELD and within Hydra back when both SHIELD and Hydra were being hunted in the post Winter Soldier period. Her husband on the other hand was just a mercenary and the designated assassin in an agency where the rest made a very big thing out of killing before first Simmons and then Director Coulson went on a kill Ward mission

Quite the exciting episode, that latest one was. Coulson face-to-face with Russian PM and the American President (in his third appearance this season)! That's politics for ya. Makes one wonder what they've got planned for Civil War... probably not much, alas. :p

Also, isn't it time they at least glancingly referenced the Netflix shows? Daredevil got himself a front-page newspaper article at the end of his S1; and while we know he isn't an inhuman, SHIELD probably doesn't. And how about at least a passing mention of the Kilgrave incident? They have no reason to believe he wasn't an inhuman, either. I get that it'd be awkward and not very dramatically interesting for, say, Daisy to try to recruit Matt Murdock and be politely rebuffed, but surely throw out a mention or two.

Agreed. It wouldn't take much. The third season premiere gave a passing nod or made a reference to every phase 2 movie except Guardians of the Galaxy. Something like that is all it would take.

They'd have little reason to think that Daredevil was superhuman at all...he doesn't advertise that he has heightened senses that compensate for his blindness.

Jessica, Kilgrave, and Cage...that's another thing entirely.

Yes. Most people assume Daredevil has normal vision, since they assume a blind man couldn't be a crimefighter. Which is why Matt has such a foolproof disguise, or at least did until his secret identity was exposed.

Then there was the time that Matt threw Foggy and Karen off from discovering that he was Daredevil by pretending to be his own, sighted twin brother Mike, who was Daredevil. And then the Mike persona kind of took over his life and it got really silly. Finally he arranged for Mike to be killed off, then convinced Foggy and Karen that Mike had trained someone else to be a replacement Daredevil. (IIRC, this was referenced in season 1 of the show, when Matt used "Mike" as an alias with Claire Temple when they first met.)

Somehow, I had a feeling that Blake was going to be with the Watchdogs from the moment they announced Titus Welliver was guest starring. I do have to admit that I expected the Watchdogs to be a one-and-done threat and am a little surprised that they (and Blake) will be recurring. Interesting that they are secretly being run by HYDRA as in the comics they were being secretly run by the Red Skull.

I liked the callback to Agent Carter season one. It's all connected.

It would be cool if AOS runs until the Inhuman movie comes out. The series final could tie directly into that movie and all the series regulars could be in the movie.

I'd forgotten all about Blake. I had to look him up on the MCU Wiki to remember who he was. I've never actually managed to see the short film where he was introduced.

Also, in the news footage of the implosion, down at the bottom of the screen where they show headlines of other news stories, there was a caption about how authorities were unsure what to do about the gang warfare in Hell's Kitchen. So there was a Daredevil nod there. Before it was a caption about some professor, but I didn't notice if it related to anything specific.

That's unlikely, since the movie division has made it pretty clear that they don't have too much interest in what the TV division does. They sometimes give interviews acknowledging that it's possible they could use some characters from the TV shows if there were a good place for them, but it doesn't sound like much more than lip service to me. Indeed, there was a recent corporate shakeup in Marvel Entertainment that made the person in charge of the TV division more independent of the person in charge of the movie division, so we may be seeing even less coordination between them in the future.

That implosion compound seemed ridiculously powerful. That building looked like it was wiped out by like six splats. Good thing Daisy seemed to have really great aim with that liquid nitrogen.

Lincoln just isn't gelling with me, it feels like SHIELD ... and Lincoln.

That new show The Catch seems likes it's mining the same territory Most Wanted is going for, I wonder if it will undercut it at all?

Well in 'Agent Carter' we saw a hand grenade sized nitramene device implode an entire oil refinery into a chunk of wreckage small enough to fit on the back of the truck...which they actually did. A feat this episode points out is impossible. Guess they don't make trucks like they used to. ;)

I was glad to see Blake back. I like the actor and I liked Blake, what little we saw of him. Glad he didn't die. Stands to reason that not all SHIELD agents would still be okay with the organization after finding out about it's HYDRA affiliations particularly those who had a tendancy toward stereotyping and xenophobia. I wonder if the show going this route has anything to do with the tenor of elements of the US political scene this year.

I really like the way Chloe Bennett has evolved her acting. Daisy is totally relaxed and in control, but always able to bring a bit of comedy to her scenes.

I thought the way Mack and his brother related to each other was...less than realistic and not very interesting. So much more could have been done with their scenes without sacrificing the tone of the relationship.

I think this season is going to have to really pick it up to match the heights season 2.
