Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

It probably won't be a *totally* different character since as we saw with zombie-Will, the creature appears to acquire enough of the host's personality and memories to pass if it has to.

Kinda makes you wonder why exactly it was hanging out in Will's old cave when Fitz showed up. I mean sleeping in the bed of the person who'd body you just stole? Ward may have met his match in general creepertude.

Small aside: if it's retained the memories of *all* of it's hosts over the centuries, that means it's had an overview of a large slice of human history, albeit second-hand. I wonder if they'll address that.

Actually I'm surprised Malick survived the episode. I figured he'd be another Whitehall, a bad guy for the first half-season who'd be gotten rid of in the "winter finale."

I'm glad he's still out there. I was really disappointed when they killed Reinhardt at the end of Season 2.1. Powers Boothe is a lot of fun, and it's good to have a recurring bad guy whose primary goal is not "kill the good guys ASAP." (See: Wolfram and Hart.)
Yeah, it's a lot more interesting when the bad guys have more motivating them just dislike for the hero.

If they eventually get rid of the monster...they'll probably just find a way to bring the real Ward back.

Be afraid...be very afraid.

I was always rolling my eyes when people brought up the redemption angle, but now I see a potential set-up for it. What if the real Ward comes back but he's a relative blank slate, for instance? Bringing up the whole question of how responsible he'd be for his past actions if he's no longer that person, and the whole opportunity to turn him into something better.

I really hope that doesn't happen. Neither the character nor the actor warrants being kept around like that.

Why would anyone need the monoliths anymore? The ancient inhuman is already back, there are no people left on the planet to save. The monolith bits are essentially useless now, (unless the inhuman can't be killed and the ultimate storyline is how to trick/force it back through the portal?).
I'm betting that's exactly what they will need to do, but initially SHIELD should be trying to keep the mini-Moths out of HYDRA's hands.

I hope we revisit that planet soon, because the ruins and the planet's history are both very interesting.
I wouldn't be surprised if we never see that planet again.

Sure, an alien planet is interesting as heck (especially the ancient civilizations), but this is Agents of Shield, not the Discovery Channel.
There's the possibility of advanced alien technology that both SHIELD and HYDRA would want to exploit. And, if it turns out that it was a Kree world or Kree were involved, there may be useful intel to be found.

they must have had to leave the mini-Monoliths behind, which may turn out to be a tactical error. They should go back for them as quickly as possible, because HYDRA sure will.

Ward monster makes it out just before the warp closed. Missiles fly in. Castle go BOOM!. Nothing to recover there but dust.
There's no reason to assume that an explosion would destroy an alien Monolith, especially if it was in it's "liquid" state.

Only remember at this point it is not like after Thor 2 and SHIELD are a bunch of vigilantes who just conducted a missile strike on a sovereign nation. Unless they have some assets embedded like Hydra does everywhere the crime scene is now out of their hands

Well, if sonics can destroy the original monolith, then I think those explosions would work just fine. And the gate was closing. They weren't in a liquid state by the time of the explosion.

The sonics that destroyed the original were caused by Daisy matching the proper frequency to keep the portal open. I doubt any random explosion would do that. And that's if it even was the sonics that did it - for all we know that was energy overload from keeping the portal open too long and had absolutely nothing to do with what was physically happening around the monolith.

Even if those stones were destroyed, there has to be more. Remember, that the original Monolith had at least five holes in it on each side.
