Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

I actually like Bobbi in the lab coat. Not long term but it nicely distinguishes her a bit more from May.

I thought she was more than distinguished enough, and I liked having two female ass-kickers while SkyDaisy grew into the role.

New Bus is very sweet, nice blend of Old Bus and Helicarrier-via-Quinjet.

That's what I was thinking when I saw it!

This is my one puerile comment: Daisy in a tank top > Daisy in her full uniform. :)

Any who... The FX for Coulson's arm was fantastic.

Also, intriguing theory that it's the same place where Tobias Ford the season 1 particle reactor guy ended up, but I think they referred to the place he was phasing to as another dimension, not somewhere across space.

Just because the announcer in a promo said "the other end of the universe," that doesn't make it true in-story. Promo descriptions get things wrong all the time.

I was thinking that the open white lab coat over a black top was sort of the inverse of the Mockingbird costume's traditional color scheme. I may be reading too much into it, though.

So, what are Shield's assets now? Does it still have the sea going carrier from last season? The helicarrier from the recent movie? Have the two divergent "Shields" fully reintegrated?

Oh and hey! Coulson not wearing a suit!

Fake!Shield is gone, the Nimitz carrier is probably in refit at whatever facility Coulson could find to keep it safe while repairs were made.

Coulson!Shield has The Playground and Theta facility that we know of, using both to produce the new Bus and collect all the remaining pre-Winter Soldier and Fake!Shield materiale they come across. Which is now about 5 Quinjets and a fleet of Shield ground vehicles.

"64" is still berthed at the Theta facility where she was repaired after the Avengers and is likely now undergoing more pre-Sokovia. (The new Bus was likely built there as it's the only place with enough manufacturing space and materials for working on craft like that, or Tony helped).

Fury is at another undisclosed location and able to call on both surviving Shield elements loyal to him like Theta and apparently allies he cultivated while Director of the organisation.

Great opener.
Loving Daisy and her new role dealing with the new Inhumans. Did anybody else find it weird when she actually called Coulson Phil?
I liked Mack's role here too, he was a pretty good partner for Daisy. They did get a bit of a laugh from when he was going after Lash with Lincoln and Daisy.
I don't mind Bobbi in the lab. We really didn't learn much about her background last season, so there's really nothing to rule it out. Unless you think people with science degrees can't kick ass, or just have some unreasonable grudge against her you can't get over.
The stuff with Joey was a nice way to show how the team is dealing with the new Inhumans. In the comics when something similar happens with Terrigen they called the people exposed to it Nuhumans, I wonder if we could adopt that term here too.
I was kind of surprised with the big twist with ACTU and Rosalind Price. In a lot of the prerelease stuff they seemed to be setting them up as the big mysterious enemies of the season, so I was happy that they actually managed to surprise me there.
Loved the stuff with Fitz. That last scene with him was heartbreaking.
I can't wait to see what is going on with Simmons. I am curious if she's on another planet or in another dimension. At this point there wasn't really anything to rule out either one.
I did read up a bit on Lash on the Marvel wiki, and apparently after Terrigen spread through the world in the comics he started going around recruiting his own group of Nuhumans. I'm wondering if something similar is going on here. I could see that as the big motivation to put together the Secret Warriors in a hurry. I wouldn't be surprised if the big conflict at the end of the season ends up being ACTU, and S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Secret Warriors vs Lash and his army of Inhumans.

They still may be, I assume nothing!

I just had a horrible thought. What if she really is dead and that's her "afterlife"? Don't say there isn't any context for that in Marvel.

Btw, that place also kind of reminded me of Svartelfheim.

What if that thing is one of the infinity stones?

I profoundly doubt it. The movies are designed to have their own self-contained continuity that can be followed by moviegoers independently of the TV tie-ins. So anything relevant to the movies' storylines -- which the Infinity Stones absolutely are -- will originate in the movies themselves. The show can piggyback on ideas from the movies and fill in the gaps between the movies, but they're not going to originate anything that will later be a major part of the movies, because that would confuse movie audiences who don't watch the show. (For instance, Hydra's Dr. List first appeared in the post-credits scene of The Winter Soldier before showing up as a recurring character on AoS to lead into Age of Ultron.)

Neither. I just like Mockingbird Bobbie more than Lab Tech Bobbie. I want her leg to heal so she can be out in the field again. 'Scuse me for having a preference.

As I mentioned before, there is very much a physical place (at least two actually, from what I can tell) in the comics that would fit the bill. Helheim: one of the nine realms of yggdrasil where the souls of dishonoured warriors are condemned to wander for all eternity (overseen by Loki's daughter no less.) And the Realm of Death, who in the comics is a cosmic being that embodies Death and in the comics is the motivation of Thanos's quest for the Infinity Gauntlet.
That line at the end of Avengers is way more literal than you might think.

As for what's happened to Simmons, I'm pretty certain she's not physically dead but has been sent bodily into this place. No I idea why she hasn't starved or died of thirst. Perhaps time and the the laws of the Universe don't quite work the same way there? That or she's been eating whatever else is trapped there with her.

Btw, that place also kind of reminded me of Svartelfheim.

I don't remember the Dark World having such large planetary bodies dominating the sky, but it did have what seemed to be a perpetual solar eclipse, or otherwise something very funky going on with the local star (if it was a star at all, could have been a black hole/quasar.) Plus IIRC the whole place had a perpetual red, magic-hour thing going on while this place (for now at least) has more of a dusk/twilight feel. Which when you think about it, suits the idea of it being Death's Realm and/or Helheim rather well.

What if that thing is one of the infinity stones?

^Almost certainly not. They can't introduce anything that makes the TV show required viewing for the movie audiences and the infinity stones are very much a movie thing.

So Fitz is off being a superspy on the other side of the planet, and Simmons is going to be (assuming she gets back to earth) one of the toughest and most rugged survivors/individuals on the entire team. Go figure.

I know it isn't on the other side of the universe/another dimension, but what if Simmons has ended up in the Blue Area of the moon? It would tie in nicely with other Inhuman stuff if they want to use more of the ideas from the comics. Would it be tied too tightly to F4/Xmen for them to use it?

I'm not sure the moon would have not only a planet that close by, but several other planets visible in view like that. Unless my knowledge of the solar system is badly off ;)

Nice surprise seeing Ellis...but if the new female antagonist is working for the government, I wonder if that means we won't be seeing more of Talbot...?

When was all this shown? in webisodes?

Nice surprise seeing Ellis...but if the new female antagonist is working for the government, I wonder if that means we won't be seeing more of Talbot...?

General Talbot was fighting Hydra and by extension SHIELD, since nobody was sure who is who with all the infiltration. When Grant Ward was turned over it seemed as if Senator Ward and the General at least made peace with the SHIELD under Director Coulson. But it seemed from President Ellis's statement that SHIELD is very much still in outlaw status as far as the US is concerned.

So he can still be used on what was his mission since Hydra is still out there with the dirty wing being built by Ward and a cleaner wing being seen on Ant-Man, sort of like army units fighting in Italy after D-Day and most of the attention going to the battles in France.

Woah, sorry there. The first one was just a general, sarcastic statement geared towards no one in particular, and the second was geared towards Kirk55555.
