Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

Sure, but as The Old Mixer pointed out, it's the same honeycomb panelling from both the old Bus and Banner's cabin, so it's a pretty fair assumption.

That aside, given he doesn't even have to touch something to melt it, it's probably wise to keep him contained in that thing rather than let him wander around a plane that's almost certainly mostly made of metal. Insulating is one thing, but actively *blocking* his powers sounds more like a job for vibranium than normal plastics, carbon fibre or ceramics.

Also, unless they had plenty of advance warning of this particular metahuman and his powers, it's more likely that they'd use an all-purpose vibranium-lined flying elevator than a custom-designed flying elevator.

Were those stated to be vibranium? How much vibranium does SHIELD have?

A vibranium alloy IIRC.
That's probably just the writer's way around the claim that (prior to Ultron) Cap's shield constituted the sum total of vibranium Howard Stark managed to get out of Wakanda. Still, given the scarcity it's a fair bet those panels were salvaged from the wreck of the Bus...or they were stripped out ahead of the raid on Dr. List's base.

In "The Well", when they were holding Asgardian Eliott Randolph in the cell with the honeycomb pattern, Ward told Randolph, "This room is made of a silicon carbide-coated vibranium alloy. Meant for prisoners like yourself." So probably it's not as strong as Cap's shield, but pretty damn strong. Fury's toolbox was vibranium as well.

One thing I liked about this was that Coulson was way out in front of this other group, gathering intel on them. Just the opposite of how the other Shield caught him off guard last season.

And yeah, that new Bus. I'm ready for the new season!

Did they say that Cap's shield was all of the vibranium back during WWII during The First Avenger or in the present in Avengers or The Winter Soldier? If it was just during WWII then there has been plenty of time for them to find a whole lot more.

I think it was said in both TFA & AoU. Though the latter was only so far as Tony Stark knew, so it's certainly possible Fury managed to source at least a little more.

It's worth noting that Hulk left a fist print in one of those composite coated alloy panels. So while they are clearly *very* resilient, they're nowhere near as strong as Cap's pure vibranium shield.

Young Howard said to Cap, you're looking at it for all of the Vibranium he had.

Ultron said, like, the most useful metal in the world and you made a coaster out of it. So they really didn't establish limits of it in modern times. And Klaw seemed to have a lot.

I wonder that SHIELD didn't swing by South Africa after the rest that Ultron didn't take

^I think it's a fair bet Ultron took it all, judging by what he used it for. Also, I'm pretty sure he said "frisbee", not "coaster". ;)

As for where else SHIELD may have gotten some more: perhaps the Destroyer is at least partly made of vibranium? It would explain how they managed to get the gun Coulson used working if they dismantled the Destroyer and salvaged it's materials.

Perhaps a vibranium meteor fell to earth at some point and Shield dug it up?

Poor Fitz. :(

Loving everything so far. Spy stuff and Inhuman stuff, it's what SHIELD should be.

It's like Simmons is in the phantom zone.

Promo said that she's on the other side of the universe.

I think she is in the same realm that guy in Season 1(?) who kept fading in and out of real space. Didn't he touch some artifact also?

Fitz is amazing. In my mind he's in the top three, with Coulson and Daisy.

Great premiere. Solid on every level. Looking forward to the return of May and Ward next week.

Pretty solid opening. Things have ramped up to a new level. More superpower action, new threats, new status quo for various characters. And a passel of movie references -- nods to the alien attacks on New York, London, and Sokovia (though Ultron was kind of indirectly alien), an appearance by President Ellis, even a nod to "the Pym Technologies disaster." (Which is perhaps an overstatement given that nobody died in that.) And the lines about the laws of man catching up with the laws of nature could be foreshadowing Captain America: Civil War.

Promotional blurbs do not constitute usable space-time coordinates. ;-)

Yeah, sci-fi promos tend to resort to hyperbole -- or maybe just staggering astronomical ignorance -- in such matters. Like that TV-listing description of Total Recall, a film set on Earth and Mars, as a tale of "intergalactic intrigue." :scream: And then there's the inexplicable tagline used on The Wrath of Khan's movie posters: "At the end of the universe lies the beginning of vengeance."

A very good season opener. I got about halfway through the episode thinking, "someone's missing", then Coulson mentioned May. Doh, oh yeah!

Now waiting for K5 to come in and rant about Bobby.
