Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release...

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

That is a really cool logo.

As for the cast, I'm hoping they make BJ Britt a regular, I liked Tripplet and would like to see him stick around. As for Ward, I doubt this is the last we've seen of him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was down was downgraded to just recurring, at least for a while.

If the bad likenesses in the comic it is about the rights, that seems kind of weird to me. I would think these days, and especially with a company like Marvel, that stuff like that would be a part of everyone's contracts by default.

apparantly that advertising is in San Diego

Thanks for sharing kitik. :techman:

It's a good symbol to convey Coulson and friend's journey to find what's left of SHIELD and/or Hydra.

I think the only likeness that mattered in that comic was the Lexus.

I'd be really surprised if Agent Ward was a regular next year.

jails in comic book universes are notoriously bad at holding criminals

My expectation is a more Hannibal Lecter type figure.

I'm not expecting him to show up in every episode, mind you, but enough that they'll make him a regular (or at least, start that way).

I see Ward making the occasional guest appearance, but not as a series regular.

I got to agree with kitik. We're talking about a SHIELD trained super spy. I would not be surprised if he breaks out of jail the same day they put him in.

I certainly agree he's capable of doing that, I just don't think they will go down that road for story reasons. There are a couple of routes to go if he breaks out, but I don't think he works as well as a recurring antagonist. He's not a schemer who has some kind of goal. All he ever did was take orders. I think there's room to explore this character aspect next season, but, if he's free, it'll quickly be him meandering with no idea what to do.

Interesting detailing on those trains...

Exactly. When they turned him into a HYDRA mole, they turned him into a cipher. With his master gone, he has no motivation to be secret evil guy. Being a sociopath, he has no motivation to go on a quest for redemption. That leaves revenge and stalking Skye. Boring. It would be best to just forget him. I feel bad for the actor; he was doing good as a James Bond analog until they screwed him over.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

There are places they could go with his character. He was never a Hydra true believer and he was never a full on psycho either (he couldn't even look Fitz & Simmons in the eye.)

While I can't see him ever become a regular (villain or otherwise) he'd work pretty well as a recurring...well, not a frenemy exactly, maybe more like an independent contractor. Someone occasionally useful, often dangerous and never to be fully trusted. Think Baal from Stargate SG-1, or Crowley from Supernatural.

That or they'll just give him a redemption arc that ends in his (sacrificial?) death.

But yeah, his lack of a driving motivation is a problem, but they can always give him one if need be.

Really ?

Unusually, for a major show, there seem to be a few of the main cast who aren't exactly great. He's certainly one of them...

I don't agree with that. He still has a character, he's not just a sociopath. His motive for redemption is that he has nothing else besides that to try for. After all, he has been a SHIELD agent his entire life too.

More accurately, Grant Ward is an opportunity for some character drama. It's an opportunity for him to try and find his purpose and atone for his past. He may never be able to do that, that's fine, but it'll be interesting to see him try. If he decides to become recurring villain, it's fine as well as long as they do it realistically and not cartoony.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

I'd argue that Ward isn't a sociopath at all. He's capable of developing loyalties and emotional attachments. He did it with Garrett, and to a lesser extent with Coulson's crew as well. Skye and May in particular, although those relationships can never again be what he might have preferred. And, as noted, he couldn't bring himself to look Fitz and Simmons in the eye as he dumped their pod out of the Bus. A true sociopath wouldn't have flinched from that.

What that means for any future the character might have on this series is therefore up for this ongoing argument.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

Don't forget that Garrett recruited him out of juvie. He's been a sociopath since he was a kid-- which is exactly why Garrett wanted him, and cultivated his sociopathy. He may have hesitated with the dog and certain people that he considers pets, but he has unflinchingly murdered many other people with no compunction at all. He has never had any motivation beyond a vague, adolescent hostility coupled with a lack of morality, which Garrett was able to exploit. He only showed a trace of minor rebellion against Garret when Garrett caused him to be hurt. What can he do now, unless he latches on to another master? He's a born minion.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

OK, I think we're labouring under false assumptions here. Ward is NOT a sociopath, nor is he a psychopath (though Garrett, along with his father and elder brother probably were.) Such people are antisocial and lack any sense of remorse or social conscience and are almost totally selfish. Not because they want to so much as that's just how they're wired.

Ward on the other hand is just the product of abuse. First in his home life and later with Garrett's indoctrination. Don't forget, the reason he's so messed up is that his elder brother made him torture their younger brother. A sociopath wouldn't be so bothered by that. At best they might resent being dominated, but they'd feel nothing for the younger sibling. Also, a psychopath wouldn't have hesitated at killing the dog, nor would he have trouble looking Fitz & Simmons in the eye. Indeed, the implication is that his arson attempt was to protect his younger brother from the rest of his family. That is clearly not selfish behaviour.

Short version: Ward has repeatedly displayed genuine guilt at his actions and empathy towards his victims.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

^I mentioned that in some thread along the way too.

I also see no redemption for Ward unless he dies saving someone. He's killed quite a few heartlessly including a few Shield agents, Victoria Hand; a woman who dedicated her life to keeping the peace, and even though he showed some remorse when he ejected Fitz and Simmons, he still did it. He didn't know they'd survive and neither did Fitz and Simmons for a time. I would rather see him work for Talbot or snap and become a pre-Barton Blackwidow who does care how he uses his skills before watching him trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his teammates.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

Uh, except where she told him to execute someone in cold blood.

Ward killed lots of people in cold blood, but he only did it when necessary to accomplish his objectives. Who knows what he would have done there had Hand not forced his hand.

Re: Agents of SHIELD season 2 News, Rumors, Pics, etc. until release..

^^ But there's also the nature of his objectives to take into consideration.

I don't dispute that, I just think that is the way he's wired, because he comes from a family that's wired that way. Anyway, the fact is that the writers probably haven't even thought it through that far.

What can he do now, unless he latches on to another master? He's a born minion.
I've called it already...Ward and Talbot...watch for it.
Okay. That's certainly one way to keep him on the show.

I'm sure Seal Team Six could have captured Osama Bin Laden but I think the world is better off with them putting one in the head a two in the chest (it might be the other way around).

Hand thought similarly with Garrett.
