"Admit it's a reboot!!!" Who cares, really.

You guys. "Star Trek" is obviously a reboot on the face of it. The ship looks different, the back story for some of the characters is different. Why does it matter that JJ and Co. don't admit it? We can see and hear it with our own eyes and ears.

IT. IS . A. REBOOT.

As long as the story is good and it retains the essense of the original, the set dressing and incidental changes matter not to me (Trek watcher since 1966).

HIS EYES ARE THE WRONG COLOR AND STARSHIPS AREN'T BUILT IN IOWA AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A STICK SHIFT

Because they've gone through a very elaborate, and tedious, song and dance about how it isn't a reboot and that "there's a canon explanation for everything". At this point, it's looking like that "canon explanation" is that canon has been wiped out.

In short, JJ and Co. have been lying through their teeth about what they're doing from the beginning, and they are continuing to lie to us every time they trot out this "not really a reboot" crap! Not only is this blatantly dishonest, it's also disrespectful of the fanbase to such a degree that, had he tried this crap in the not-too-distant past, there would've been protests outside the Paramount gates with JJ being burned in effigy.

What I really find dismaying is that so many so-called fans are not only okay with being lied to, they're actually applauding this fraud.

I'm okay with it because it sounds like they have created a time travel paradox story that will more then likely be reset to the canon we all know and love by the time the movie (or series of movies) ends.

Maybe , just maybe, it's because you're one of the extremely small minority of fans who are taking this way too seriously and blowing things out of proportion, instead of just taking it for what it is no matter what spin someone puts on it.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan, and I don't think I've been lied to in the least. Of course, I haven't seen the movie yet, but of course you haven't either, so I can't vouch for either of us.

If you're just going to continually piss and moan about this "abomination," then just don't go see it, and stop belittling it to people who will.

I don't think there's a chance that this movie will be reset at the end.

Not...a...chance.

That said, it's clearly a reinvention of a lot of the visual and continuity aspects of the original "Star Trek." What's central is that by the end Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the familiar folk will be the crew of the Enterprise and all set to go on the sequels. :techman:

"So-called". See, that's really annoying. Because I am a HUGE ST fan. As are many on this forum. I do not feel disrespected. In fact, most of what I've read from JJ and Co. seems to be trying to walk the tight-rope of what is respectful to Trek Classic and remaking the story for a whole new audience.

Maybe it's because I'm also a fan of comics and the Bond films, but I have grown used to reboots. As long as the story and characters are compelling, I'm fine with almost anything (except Nicholas Cage as Superman :) ).

I don't think the crew and sets will be reset at the end either. This film is a way to introduce the audience to the new actors etc that will be carrying the Star Trek brand into the future. But the story will fit into the existing Star Trek history. I really don't think that those worrying about canon need to be worried. It will all fit together.

Or we'll MAKE it fit.

Like I said before I don't care if it's a reboot. It looks like it's going to be a fun movie and I'm happy Trek may be popular again.

Yeah, me too.

@to somebody else and not Kirk-Fu :
Honestly, where do you get those informations that make you think that "Enterprise ISN"T built in Iowa" ? Did TOS TV series and movies confirms that? or it just come from a novel / data books / technical books or something?

I don't care if it is a reboot or not, I'll see it at the theater asap then judge whether or not my Trek continues or ends there.

Or we'll MAKE it fit.
Pretty much.

The cynical part of me wants to say "this isn't the 70's any more, and so trying to fit things into the canon isn't what's done any more." Fortunately, the cynical part of me has been safely tucked away.

Sadly for me, I saw the thread on the cop, and what it is and isn't. And then I saw the title for this thread, and saw "Admit it's a ROBOT!!!"

No, I think you are lying through your teeth or lower down.

Oh god, why don't we just wait and see the movie first, 'kay?
