Ad Astra

And the Winner Is...!
Gumnut, with 1176 points; second is Miranda Fave with 900 points and third place is Sam Pengraff with 796 points! Congratulations, Nutty! She gets to name the next challenge, the featured story and a piece of fanart.

But don't go slacking now...
The next review hunt will focus on getting some readers for the longer works out there. So! Ten extra bonus points to the largest story on an author's list. Just skim through the list, click on a name, find their longest story and get to reading, even if their longest isn't all that long.

In other news:
The vote is now open for the Orders Be Damned challenge. Go out and make your voice (or clicking finger) heard!

New Challenge!
Gumnut has submitted her challenge, which is to say: "'No man [or woman] is an island'. No one is as successful or unsuccessful as they are without the input of others. Your character of choice realizes this and does something. All series, all characters, all fun."

This challenge closes in two weeks, and I'm hugely looking forward to seeing what folks come up with!

New Hunt!
The next Great Review Hunt will be about the long-story love. Given the time constraints folks face with real-life, it's sometimes hard to want to go and tackle a new novel, especially if it's about new characters you don't know, or even ones you do. That being said, feel free to pick up a 'book' or a longer story this time around! Bonus points are being given to the reviews of an author's longest story.

1.) Browse the authors list.
2.) Pick out the longest story (word counts are shown).
3.) Profit! Er... I mean, ten extra bonus points to each review of that story.

As most folks know by now, the prize is to name a featured story for two weeks, the next story challenge and a piece of fanart, all for you.

Vote!
The vote for the previous challenge is currently running, so go have a read and see who you wanna throw your hat in for! Voting closes in a week.

Have a great Wednesday!

New News?
Well, thanks to getting caught up in Ad Astra's first ever round robin, I haven't updated the news in awhile. But I have certainly been keeping track of things regardless, no worries!

Challenges!
And the winner of the Orders Be Damned Challenge was Lil black dog with the story Three Sheets to the Wind! Congrats, Cuppy!

But don't go getting complacent yet; Gumnut has issued a challenge, and since there's only one entry, I'm now opening it up to old stories that fit the theme. So if you have a piece that does, add it on in!

Current Review Hunt
Miranda Fave is currently owning this review hunt. Not out of the running, though, is Sam Pengraff, and there's a whole week left, so anyone can still take it!

I've been strolling through AdAstra the past few days. "Three Sheets to the Wind" is just wonderful, while I'm hooked on "USS Kestrel - Hunting Grounds". Great stuff! :techman:

I dabble in fan fiction, but some of my stuff takes odd forms (Trek poetry?!) and have odd subjects and characters. I'm not sure how my work would fit in at AdAstra.

We have all kinds at AD ASTRA. The more 'unique' the better, is my motto. Give it a try!!!

Rob

We generally don't accept poetry on the archive itself, but if you have any prose pieces, by all means! Or, if you just want to show the poetry, open up a thread on the Forum under Fic Talk and feel free to share it there.

New Day, New Hunt, New Challenge!
Happy Wednesday! The winner of our last Review Hunt was Miranda Fave with a very impressive 2354 points! Congrats, Miranda! The second runner up was Sam Pengraff with 1677 points. Miranda, therefore, gets to name the next story challenge, the featured story for two weeks and a piece of fanart. PM or e-mail me, man, and lemme know what's up.

Challenge Vote!
The Not and Island Challenge is now being voted on HERE. Feel free to go on over and make your voice be heard!

The Next Review Hunt...
...will be a series review hunt. Because of the Round Robin eating my brain and entertaining me all to pieces, I haven't had a chance to think of a clever challenge for our reviewers. So, this next two weeks, bonus points will go to all stories reviewed in our two more dusty categories: Enterprise and Voyager. Bring some love to these quieter categories and win points while you do so!

Seriously! How did I do that? Mega coolness though. That really makes my day Steff!

And then I see this:

Thanks Sovereign_One and I'm glad you're hooked! That also makes my day. I'll carry that over til tomorrow. heh heh.

Miranda's Challenge
Miranda Fave has issued his challenge! Namely speaking, "Any series, AU or OC. Write from the perspective of one of our infamous redshirts who more often than not meet a dire fate on an away mission. A Captain's Table in reverse, a lowly crewman or ensign [our redshirt] tells their story of their first away mission. The 'redshirt' can be a canon character only just at the time of the story they would be considered a nobody, extra in the background." This challenge will end on May 6th.

Featured
Miranda has also named the featured story, and since he couldn't be cajoled into having one of his own on the front page, he chose Trekfan's Star Trek: Chronicles, Book One. Congratulations, TF! Go thank Miranda. ;-)

Review Hunt
As stated in the last news post, all Enterprise and Voyager category fics this time around will be awarded ten extra bonus points on top of the usual scale. So go give our smaller categories some attention! As always, the prize for the review hunt is: 1.) Naming the next story challenge, 2.) Naming the featured story for two weeks and 3.) Naming a piece of fanart, drawn just for you. Support the authors, and everyone does well!

Have a great approaching weekend!

Great Review Hunt

And the winner this time around is Mistral! Congratulations, Mistral. Lemme know what the next two week challenge is, what story you want featured and what you want art-wise... just remember it may take me a good bit of time to finish it.

In the meantime, you're next great review hunt is...

Love the Reviewers!

In order that our best reviewers get some love of their own, this review hunt will award ten extra bonus points to reviews of stories belonging to the Top Ten Most Prolific Reviewers. In the case of Verenna, who's a reader and not a writer, just send her a very lovely letter thanking her. But for the others (meaning, everyone but me, though I always like getting some love) show your appreciation for their dedication by giving their stories some attention and feedback.

Challenge Vote!

Miranda Fave's 'A Redshirt's POV' challenge is now being voted on here. So, come on over and let your voice be heard! Voting ends in one week.

Have a great Wednesday!

Wednesday Headlines

And the Winner Is...!
CeJay! His story 'My Everything' takes the Redshirt POV challenge, though Terilynn's wonderful 'Proof of Duty' only missed the win by one vote. Congrats, CeJay!

In the Meantime
The current challenge, posed by Mistral, is still on. So, click on that handy challenge link and consider writing for it -- we already have a couple entries and are always willing to go for more. The challenge ends in one week, and while I won't be here to set up the vote, there will be people in our place. Which brings me to...

Vacation!
The Teddog and I are going to be missing in action from the day of the 17th, until about the 23rd. We're going on vacation, and that means, in our place, you have a couple of temporary admins. Anna Amuse and Miranda Fave will be in charge of Ad Astra -- Mike will still be around, but he's been very hammered with work lately and therefore will hopefully just make sure the site doesn't explode.

What this means is that you need to send your reviews (the links to them) to Anna and Miranda so they can be counted for the Great Review Hunt. Just do this once a day if you can. Come the 17th, when I'm gone, the only way your reviews will be counted towards the total is if you send the links to them so that they can count -- unlike me, they don't have database access and can't just go dig them up easily.

It also means that Miranda and Anna will be coming up with the next Great Review Hunt theme. It means that if you have trouble, to contact them. Teddog and I will only be gone a week; in the meantime, be on your very best behavior.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

New Category!
Based on the popular consensus of ASC, the category for the new movie is 'Alternate Original Series' -- this is for the new movie, and all stories that take place in that timeline. Any stories that are a crossover between that and any other series would still go into the Crossovers section. Added all of the basic characters. So, if you know any authors writing for the new movie, point 'em over here!

Vacation!
The Teddog is here and safe, and tomorrow we're gone; today, we'll still probably be on the quiet side. Remember that your Admins while we're absent are Anna Amuse and Miranda Fave; mdgarcia is also still around, but mostly in the background due to heavy workload.

And don't forget...
All reviews starting on midnight of the 17th that you want counted towards the Great Review Hunt that ends on Wednesday should be e-mailed or PMed to your temporary admins. So, compile the links and send them once a day to Anna and Miranda; that's the only way they'll be counted. On midnight on the 20th (Wednesday) the hunt closes.

Have a great Saturday!

The Great Review Hunt and the Signature Challenge

Ahem ... under temporary new management ...

The Great Review Hunt

The Great Review Hunt is still under way and ends on midnight Wednesday [EST] time. As usual there are prizes up for grabs. The reward for your valued time and words is to name the challenge, name the featured story, and of course a piece of art by the birthday girl herself. [Unless you like stick people, then I can try my hand!

]

One little reminder, however, is to PM links to any reviews you do write to Anna Amuse and myself.

So with two days left in the Great Review Hunt, remember too, that there are extra points for reviewing the most prolific authors.

In the Lead ...
At present, Nerys has an impressive lead but things can change swiftly in a Review Hunt. Many others have tallied quite a few points to date and a late reading spurt quickly brings a person's total up.

Keep reading, keep reviewing, keep trucking. :techman:

The Signature Challenge

Also closing come Wednesday midnight, is Mistral's signature challenge. Mistral's challenge is:
"Last night I saw upon the stair, A little man who wasn't there."

My only instruction is to take the spirit of the line(s) and create a Star Trek story that reflects it.

There are four responses thus far, and when entries close come Wednesday midnight, voting will open over on the forum.
