Ad Astra

Back up now. As ever impressive is Mike and here's his scoop on the whole thing:
We were down for approximately 7 hours, starting at 3:03am local time (PDT).

There was another emergency reboot of the web server. This is being caused by the heavy use of the SQL server. I'm looking into moving the SQL data off-server to another location to help keep the load off of washu.

Thanks for your patience.

Announcing our Review Hunt winner: Gibraltar!
Announcing our No one wins all the time challenge winner: kes7

Congrats and big thanks for all the reviews and to all who have read and written reviews. All authors greatly appreciate your efforts. Gibraltar gets to feature a story on the front page here as well as cook up a mean new challenge.

To that end, the new challenge is as follows:
http://www.adastrafanfic.com/modules/challenges/challenges.php?chalid=20
Their First Worst-case Scenario: Every person in uniform has to face their first crisis situation, the first time their mettle is tested in the crucible of an emergency or disaster. How did your character(s) handle their initial run-in with the worst-case-scenario?

Our previous challenge winner was kes7 after a run-off against PSGarak. A really tight competition serving lots of excellent stories had to go head-to-head. Thanks for the great stories and the votes [twice]. The Temporal Mechanics challenge is going to run for one more day before it goes to a vote. So check back here for developments.

Long time, new winner!
It's been awhile, my dears, but I've at least managed to sort stuff out enough to take over the review hunt again. And this time around, your winner is... (drumroll please!) ...Kes7 with 736 points! Congratulations, Kes7, and please to be letting me know what your challenge and featured story is!

The next review hunt is still themeless, as your admin here is still working on getting back into the swing of things. So, word count plus word count bonus only, no extra bonus. Go wild, show some love to our newest authors, or go revisit some of your own favorites.

And as always, good luck and have a great Wednesday!

How in the world .... ????

I feel like I was a slacker on reviews this month! Guess not. :alienblush:

Off to check that out and think of a challenge. Featured story is obviously Tesseract. I don't really have anything else to promote right now.

Life-forms... you lovely little life-forms...!
First came Gibraltar, and lo... Gibraltar was good. Next came kes7, and behold, kes7 was very good. Finally, came PSGarak and the site rejoiced, for it had found its review hunt winner this time around.

Or, in less amazing terms, congratulations PSGarak! While the other two were close, you took the cake in the end. So, please to be sending me a challenge for our beloved Ad Astra, and feel free to send me your choice for featured story, too!

In the meantime, there is a vote going on right now for the Children's stories challenge, which somehow became Once Upon a Time somehow. Hey, either way, go have a look at the three entries and give them some feedback, and give us some votes!

And have a fabulous, sane, early December Wednesday!

I fail at news aggregation. If anyone wants to take over reposting Ad Astra's newest news to the various sites and forums, please let me know.

Better a Day Late...
...than never! Consider the reveal of this review hunt needing time to ferment like fine wine. XD And it is (are we shocked? Never!) Gibraltar who takes the win with 886 points. Both kes7 and CeJay were runners up, with kes7 edging ahead by two points only. Impressive work, Ad Astra!

That being said, there is currently a vote going on for Nerys's challenge (Ordinary Times) that will end Wednesday next. And Gibraltar shall have to give me the next challenge in our series to kick off.

Ad Astra, in case you missed it, is now taking donations for hosting costs only. And Mike, our technical guru, is also kicking around the idea of hosting your very own Ad Astra blog! So, go have a look around the forums.

For all new members or potential members, please remember that you do have to register separately for the forums. The forums aren't bridged to the archive for both security and upgrade reasons.

And have a brilliant week!

Mad March Hares Review Hunt: The review hunt returns, this time it lasts all month long and information on the scoring can be found on our amazingly awesome forums!

Borrowed Toys Challenge Vote: Voting for our latest challenge is now open! Drop by the forums and cast your ballot for your favourite fic.

In General Trek News: Today is Jimmy Doohan's birthday. Given that another one of the admins is a massive Scotty fan [Guess who?], it would be a shame not to mention it. ;)

Welcome to My World! A new Ad Astra challenge

A new challenge as Submitted by gojirob and trekfan. Essentially take a character(s) from a canonical Star Trek universe and plop them down in another one created by yourself. Read here for more info. The challenge ends April 20, 2010.

In addition, the Mad March Hares Review Hunt comes to a close. The reviews are in and our winner is kes7 with over 1800 points. As a reward, she'll get to have a story featured on the front page for a bit and she gets a photomanip request from me. Thanks to all who partook reading and reviewing. It's what the site is all about.

And a little reminder that we still have the Ad Astra Art Challenge. Not much of a response thus far but there's still lots of time left to get the creative juices going.

Thanks to all.
