He only played Patrick Bateman once, so that doesn't count. Terminator will count if and when he plays the part for a second time. Can't believe this wasn't mentioned:
Christian Bale
1. Batman/Bruce Wayne (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight)
2. John Connor (Terminator: Salvation)
3. Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
This was the OP's question:He only played Patrick Bateman once, so that doesn't count. Terminator will count if and when he plays the part for a second time. Can't believe this wasn't mentioned:
Christian Bale
1. Batman/Bruce Wayne (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight)
2. John Connor (Terminator: Salvation)
3. Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
American Psycho got at least one direct to DVD sequel. Obviously Bale was not involved.^ So there are now one-movie franchises?
A franchise character is, by definition, one that's played more than once. The OP clarified his meaning in later posts to specify precisely that.He didn't say anything about them having to play each character more than once. They just have to be well known.
I saw it, but you're still missing the point. The OP is after franchises and/or TV series where a star has played the same character on an ongoing basis. Playing the character once doesn't count, regardless of whether or not there have been sequels. That's been clarified in the discussion.See my above post.
Levar Burton
Kunta Kinte (Roots)
Himself (Reading Rainbow)
Geordi LaForge (Star Trek: TNG)
I mentioned Vin Diesel because he's got three pretty big franchises under his belt. The only stretch is that his next xXx movie is still in development.Wow, there are a lot of stretches in this. Honestly, I would say only the following actors have really done three iconic roles (although I'm sure I've missed a few obvious ones):
William Shatner
Bill Bixby
Michael Landon
Christopher Lee
Harrison Ford (although even this is a small stretch since other actors played Ryan before and after him)
Michael J. Fox
Mike Myers
I don't think that matters. Batman absolutely counts for Christian Bale and Obi Wan Kenobi counts for Ewan McGregor despite the fact that other actors played those roles before them. The same goes for the Bond actors who followed after Sean Connery.Harrison Ford (although even this is a small stretch since other actors played Ryan before and after him)
I take it you don't see the Man with No Name as a character for Eastwood since that was more of a marketing approach?(no real strong third character like James Garner or Clint Eastwood).
