Actors' Hat Tricks

its true Ben Millers, Primeval & Moving Wallpaper characters are very similar, to the point where they started to wear the same clothes (that was more to do with Ben filming both shows at once at the same location)

This is kind of a cheat but in addition to playing Jim Rockford and Brett Maverick (and reprising each some decades after first doing so), James Garner has played the role of Wyatt Earp twice. Once in the fairly serious take on the Ok Corrall, Hour of The Gun and once in the light-hearted Sunset, in which his Earp is in Hollywood as an advisor on a movie being made about him (Bruce Willis plays legendary cowboy actor Tom Mix, who is playng Earp in the movie within a movie). The two movies aren't exactly sequels, but it's a nice little bit of coincidence or continuity, depending on how you look at it.

Garner also appeared in Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter but although both are written by the same writer and directed by the same director, he plays a different character in each. Mind you, they could still be regarded as sequels as much as Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone's Man With No Name/ Dollars trilogy.

I apologise if somebody has already mentioned Robert Urich..
Vegas
Spenser for hire
Lazarus man.

Gone too soon.:(

Martin Milner:

Tod Stiles
Officer Pete Malloy
Karl Robinson

Although the role of Karl Robinson is shaky as to it's "iconic" status. Milner also had a recurring role as McGyver's father on that series.

Had to read the whole thread to mention:

Betty White:

Mary Tyler Moore Show
Golden Girls
Boston Legal
(and a slew of game shows too)

I've watching a ton of Supernatural lately, so I thought of Jensen Ackles, who actually has a genre hat trick:
Dean Winchester - Supernatural
Jason Teague - Smallville
Alec - Dark Angel

^ John Thaw also had Kavanagh QC.

His Sweeney co-star, Dennis Waterman, went on to star in Minder, Stay Lucky and New Tricks. (Altogether: 'Write de 'feme toon, sing de 'feme toon ...')

Patrick Warburton

Elaine's boyfriend on Seinfeld
The Tick live action
Brock Sampson on the Venture Brothers

Lucy Lawless

XENA
HERCULES
X-FILES
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
(and, oh yeah, TARZAN)

Okay, this is stretching a bit, but she did have recurring roles on at least four majour genre shows.

As regards British tv:

James Bolam - When The Boat Comes in, Only When I Laugh, The Beiderbeck Affair, New Tricks

Sue Johnston - The Royle Family, Brookside, Waking the Dead

Craig Cash - Mrs Merton, The Royle Family, Early Doors.

Thought of another one.

Kate Jackson

DARK SHADOWS
THE ROOKIES
CHARLIE'S ANGELS
SCARECROW AND MRS. KING

Four hit series. Not bad!

Speaking of Scarecrow and Mrs. King...

Bruce Boxleitner
Scarecrow and Mrs. King
Tron
Babylon 5
