Re: What actors / characters / plots do you want to see in Star Trek X
My knee-jerk reaction is to stay away from what has been established and go with fresh ideas. But then I think of how I see JJA's Trek as potentially analogous to Nolan's Batman films. That is, the first film is very good as it tells the origins and lays the foundation for an excellent sequel. And that's what I'm hoping for STXII; to be a better story than the first with some serious moral or ethical dilema for Kirk and crew. With The Dark Knight, I was skeptical about them taking the iconic role of the Joker and retelling it. But obviously, Nolan and company did a wonderful job, perhaps making the next film an incredibly daunting task. So maybe STXII can take on an established Trek character such as Khan, Trellane, the Gorn, or the Planet Killer. Being an alternate time line, I would expect a fresh story either way.
I'm still reeling over how successful STXI has been. I was hoping it would do well but really didn't think it would have such a mass appeal. I wanted it to, but didn't think it would. I really enjoyed the film and have seen it four times...so far. It wasn't perfect, but it was very enjoyable with a good story, great casting, solid acting, lots of excitement, and great SPFX. It rekindled our beloved Star Trek and has ensured that it will be arround at least at the movies for a while. Perhaps it will give birth to a new TV series.
