I prefer DISCO or DIS, personally. I think STD might get too confusing once we're up to 500 Star Trek films :rommie:

Star Trek Discovery - STD
I don't use it as a derogatory term for the show. I like STD, it requires a lot of work to get to "great trek" but foundation is there. And if Season 2 will be the greatest TV season of all time (Star Trek or TV in general) I won't stop calling calling it STD just because it's gotten better.

Do you call Voyager STV?

Or Enterprise STE?

Star Trek: The Original Series
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Enterprise
Star Trek: Discovery

Your pattern does not fit the rest of the shows. Discovery is either referred to as DSC (used by CBS and most people) or DIS (used by Memory Alpha).

STD is just used to insult the show.

TOS only came into being after TNG started airing. They needed to call TOS something. It was just Star Trek for first twenty years of its existence. And TNG is just a shortened form of STTNG which was quiet common abbreviation in the beginning. DS9 was pretty obvious abbreviation. VOY not nearly so. There are still some that call it VGR. And don't forget that ENT was NOT called Star Trek for first two seasons. If they started off calling it Star Trek: Enterprise from the very beginning it may very well have ended up being STE

Here's a few that I've used.

WYLAD? - Would you like a drink?

NTIWST - No thanks, i'm watching Star Trek

YFL - You f*****g loser.

TABH - That's a bit harsh

WCISMYCSTOYSL - What can I say mate, you're choosing Star Trek over your social life.

IAGMAICDWIWYNMMAYDNMFIYTTMLT - I am a grown man and I can do what I what, you're not my mother and you're definitely not my friend if you talk to me like that

TOGTFO - Traipse over glaciers to find opulence

Disco. That's the way I like it.

STD's basic premise directly contradicts the basic premises of DS9, Voyager, and probably TNG. It contradicts Enterprise and TOS in any number of smaller ways as well.

If the shows themselves don't matter, why does it matter what we called them?

How does it contradict them? If you say the visuals are wrong I will find a cardboard cutout of the Enterprise and throw it at you.

I'm assuming @-Brett- is reffering to the spore drive, since with it Janeway could have reached Earth within minutes and the wormhole in DS9 would be superflous. That being said, I don't think the spore drive will still be a thing at the end of the series.

Obviously it won't be, as the producers and writers have said multiple times they will fix the spore drive issue.

Personally I use "VGR" for Voyager; mainly because it was in a tweet where someone said it was official and I kinda like the sound of it.
Except it reminds me of V-Ger. lol
I prefer TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, & DSC, because they uniformly all omit the Star Trek part, which should go without saying. Though admittedly, DIS would fit better with the others. It's just not as aesthetically pleasing

It's a little stranger for the movies. Most of them omit the Star Trek part too, until you get to the Kelvin movies
I stumbled across this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Star_Trek_abbreviations
Why does Wikipedia have a template for Star Trek abbreviations? lol
That's odd. I've never seen anyone omit the "The" part from TWOK, or TSFS

Every show contradicts every other show in some way, why is it worse when Discovery does it?

I find it hard to use acronyms in general and even contractions. Yay Data. 'Discovery' isn't a long word ;)
