My 10 year old son, who initially said he "hated" the movie after his theatrical viewing because they destroyed Vulcan & killed Spock's Mom, just watched it on DVD tonight, & said it was "pretty good, even though."
He likes Pine's Kirk, and even had a bunch of laughs along the way. He said the NuE was acceptable, and only looked away when kissing was involved.
So there you have it- the new movie is :techman:.

From the thread's title, I thought Gene Roddenberry had come back from the dead and given the film a thumbs up.

My parents (who watched the original back in the day), gave it their approval watching the DVD over the holiday. My mom especially liked it because all the aliens weren't in your face or something like that.

Keep in mind that her review of Revenge of the Sith (partway through) was "More talking? This is the worse one yet!"

My brother, who has teased me for decades about Trek:
-bought the Blu-Ray,
-bought the 2-disc DVD set for me for Christmas,
-declared it was the best movie he has seen this year, and...
-asked me a few questions about the movie.

The end of the world must be near!:rommie: It is good to be a Trek fan these days.

While I absolutely love this movie, my teenage sons think that it's boring. :(

While I absolutely love this movie, my teenage sons think that it's boring. :(
Teens from, like, 13 to 16 are not true life forms. Hormones prevent them from making accurate value judgements. This phase will pass.:bolian:

Weren't teens part of the market for this movie in the first place? And people were complaining about that, too!

My mom especially liked it because all the aliens weren't in your face or something like that.

Are you sure she wasn't saying "because all the aliens didn't have bumps on their faces"?

I'll bet she meant both statements, because most people are used to the foolishness of Battlestar Galactica, where there are are no aliens and people from another planet wear clothing like ours, and eat food like ours, and drive cars and trucks like ours.:vulcan:

My Father surprised the crap out of me by giving his approval. I expected him to be all hung up on the changes.

"You don't mind the changes?" I asked. "Not in the least", he responded... "Star Trek lives again and that is all that matters."

I was amazed when my Step-Dad, who dislikes Star Trek, wanted to see the film based on the trailer. He loved it.

I took my mom to see it in the theater because we used to watch TOS together when we first started getting the re-runs here in '72. She absolutely loved it.

my niece -- 9 -- loved it as well. she said "ew" and looked away when the kissy stuff happened though.

teens in general don't give a crap. but 20 and aboves love it. a 24-year-old employee of Best Buy told me the other day - "I never watched Trek but this movie is the bomb!"

I can't wait until I get a copy for Christmas. I'm very curious as to what my eleven-year-old brother is going to think when he finally gets to watch it.

My mom shared that same sentiment. She was seven when Star Trek premiered, and she introduced me to it at about that same age (through TNG). She can't wait for the next one.
