Abrams, Orci & Kurtzman on sequel, Trek 3D, Shatner and more

Maybe they do. I just hope that Shatner isn't shoehorned into the story like some crazy attempt at stunt casting. And I hope they don't do Wrath of Khan: The Next Generation, either. There's no need. The pallete they've created for themselves has a lot more potential than simply retreading old ideas.

Good points and very well said. I hope none of the original characters are thrown into this movie, or subsequent ones, just to fill seats or appease fans. If a really good story can include him, fine. If that doesn't happen, then let the new actors carry their own movie. Ultimately, there needs to be a great storyline regardless of who they may sign to the new movies.

I don't think it's their job to somehow "fix" Generations. Kirk went out sacrificing himself to save others in that film...twice. I'm not as pissed off about Generations as most are around here. Shatner doesn't really need to be in this film, unless they have a good reason for him to be there.

I guess sacrificing yourself to save millions of people who will never even know who you are or what you did isn't heroic enough for some people. They want Kirk to exclaim, "Look at me! Look what I'm doing! I'm sacrificing myself to save all of you! I'm not doing it for the glory, but you should still watch with awe anyway! I don't want any credit for this noble selfless heroic act I'm about to perform!"

I think these guys really get Star Trek, what it is about. A fun romp with a heart. And they are brilliant press machine, they say so much without saying anything, but at the same time you feel really excited about it.

You know...

With the timeline altered (if that's what's actually happened, and XI wasn't a parallel universe to begin with), older Spock's influence, the countless variations in how things unfold could leave Kirk very much alive past the Nexus ribbon incident.

If that's the case, who knows what might happen?

I hope the next movie ends with Shatner-Kirk waking up, saying: "Thank god, just a silly nightmare."

Now that would be a good one, the movie ending with Kirk on the holodeck saying "this holodeck thingy is fantastic"
At which point Riker should come in and Kirk observes to him,

"Will, you got to show me more of these programs."

Riker nods. "When I was troubled about the Pegasus I found this very helpful one..."

Roll credits.
