That's certainly a thorough fabrication, but it's based on nothing other than possibly resentment.

Both men made mistakes during that movie. Maybe Berman was more to blame for the failure than Brannon was that time around, but there are legitimate reasons many Trekkers came to grow weary of their leadership and direction in the late 90s and during this past decade. They fell into lazy ruts and had fewer and fewer good ideas as the years passed.
