About those jellyfish-like aliens from "Encounter at Farpoint".....

What WERE those? Were they ever given a name?

I would love to know more about them.

But I have a feeling they were intentionally left just as mysterious as the whale probe from Star Trek IV.

They feature prominently in a Titan novel, "Orion's Hounds". Worth a read!

Very cool! I'll check that out when I can.

Did the author talk more about their origins and stuff?

Those 2 were actually alien, as opposed to most of the other races we see in the show.

Like the "Blue-Fin's" they were an early concept for the Borg (i'm joking!) ;)

Its interesting how they didn't make any further appearances, but they were kinda "alien of the week" material.

One of the best Star Trek novels for me ... totally exploration, many breathtaking scenes and alien culture concepts. If you wanna know more about the star-jellies, that's your novel!

Why would they have tentacles that hang downwards, when there's no gravity in space?

Oh there's gravity in space.
Otherwise, how do planets orbit stars and how do galaxies stay together and so on?

But I know what you're saying...
