A word to Bill Shatner....

If there is no on screen role for actor William Shatner in the upcoming Star Trek XI, you and I both know that I won't be purchasing this on the inevitable HD-DVD or Bluray disc. Those "fakers" need to give the "originals" the respect that they deserve. This is a bad move on their part (Paramount, J.J. Abrams, etc.) if they don't use Mr. Shatner while he is still alive and with us.

Mr. Shatner's performance was the only shining beacon in an otherwise shit film Generations, and many of the fans agree with this. I mean, how can you pass the baton to a new James T. Kirk actor without validation from the original legend? To hell with those studio executives and their narrow-minded mentality. I'll be buying 1 ticket. Just 1 ticket to watch this film, but never again without the participation of William Shatner, who has given 42 years of his life to this franchise that has rewarded him quite handsomely in return.

Sure. Would you like cream cheese or cheddar cheese with it? :D

Are you hoping Shatner will actually read your message and take you seriously?
Ah, no. I hardly expect Shatner to be lurking through the TBBS. I'm sure he's got a lot of other things going to keep him occupied.

So basically you posted this simply to annoy the people who support this film, just as you constantly troll the people who like post-1979 Trek.

As predictable as a falling stone.
No, I saw the article about Shatner in the local newspaper and decided to comment on it. My intention isn't to annoy anyone but to voice an opinion. If someone is annoyed with that then thats their problem.

Nice letter. Lots of truth in there.

However, don't believe that rumor. William Shatner will be in that film.

Also, you're asking for too much money, they don't need you, and your character's been dead for over a decade. Fell off a bridge, oddly enough.

A new guy will be Kirk now, on a new Enterprise NCC-1701.
I've seen many takes on Superman/Clark Kent and for me George Reeves still owns the crown. Reeves wasn't the first or the last, he was just the best.

Others may play Kirk, but Bill Shatner will always be the one who defined him. Like him or not he casts an awfully long shadow for anyone else to step in.
so even though you like george reeves the best even though you acknowledge he wasnt the first you already made up your mind about whoever plays the young kirk.

what if you had been born earlier and had seen the alyn supman first and said well that george reeves is an imposter. alyn is the only superman for me.

why not watch the movie first.

for one thing i am curious how they will handle this much speculated but litle known about period of kirks life.

plus, there is speculation already that this is a ploy of shatners because he wasnt being offered enough money to appear.
so the leak could be coming from someone associated with him to stir up interest.

;)

pookha,

Do you even know what you are saying? Are you implying that the new Kirk is going to be better than William Shatner, so we should give the new Kirk a chance?

Sure, we will give the new Kirk a chance, but you and I both know that there is no snowball's chance in hell that that new Kirk is going to be an improvement upon the Shat's performances or usurp him in the popularity department? Ain't going to happen, so why even press that point in the first place?

You know what Warped9 is talking about. And let's leave it at that.

Shatners been milking the Trek cow since Generations.

God forbid new generations might want to try something a little different.

Quite frankly I dont even care if i see Nimoy I just want a good movie

There is a difference. Superman didn't originate with Reeves. Superman originated in literature. Kirk originated with Shatner. Shatner breathed life into Kirk and made him wholly three dimensional from the very beginning.

Someone new might do something interesting with Kirk, but he will never be able to define him because Shatner has already done a thorough job of it. And not only a thorough job but a damned good one at that.

And finally TPTB have burnt away so much credibility over the years as far as I'm concerned that I have ZERO trust in their judgment in regards to Trek. Yes, they just might pull a miracle out of their ass, but it would indeed be a freaking miracle and I wouldn't bet a goddamned dime on it happening.

There was a time long ago when I couldn't imagine getting enough Trek. But now I'm older and hopefully somewhat wiser and I've had my fill of so much crap done in the name of Trek that I'm no longer willing to grant TPTB any measure of credibility.

Well, I DID have hopes for this movie, but if there is any truth to this, TPTB have already made their first serious mistake. Bill Shatner should at least have SOME part in it.

So, does "Bill" Shatner hang around on the TrekBBS much these days?

He never has. A few years ago there was an account registered in his name so that his webmaster could post a pre-written "come to www.williamshatner.com we're very interested in each and every one of you" kind of message - same thing was done at any number of sites at the same time.
I missed the sarcasm mark, it would seem.

Of course William Shatner [I'm not on casual "Bill" terms with him] doesn't come here. Which makes it all the more puzzling why this was posted here.

Even if it does "cost too much"...believe me, he's going to be in that film, one way or another.

Everbody else has milked it for all it's worth, so why not THE Man himself, William Shatner, aka James Tiberius Kirk, do the same, of all people?

Frankly I could do without either of them in the movie. They're recasting iconic roles and including the original actors is going to overshadow the new guys a little too much. Let the new guys presence in the film stand for itself. I'd much rather see them publicly supporting the idea of a recast. That would be a little more helpful to the whole enterprise.

^^ And having the original actors around will simply underline the disparities between the originals and the replacements.

In the movie version of Maverick, although James Garner returned to play a different older Maverick they got away with it not only because it was a decent film, but because Maverick had been out of the collective public awareness for decades. TOS has been with us non-stop since the day it began airing.

^^ Having the original actors in it for me reminds the public (non-trek fans) what the term "Has Been" is all about.

They had their time to shine now its over.
