A TOS fan...at 50....

Happy birthday!! I turned 47 about a week ago. I hope when I turn 50, I will have some part of your equinimity...

I love the fact that I have some albeit dim recollections of first rn TOS. My husband has a cell phone which receives TV, and one of my favorite times of the day is driving home, since TOS comes on at 3:30 PM and I can catch some small part of it when my husband is driving. TOS looks surprisingly good on the small screen!!

Here's to your happy birthday and a happy 50th year!

Boy, there sure are a lot of old people in here!
What is old today?

I recall when I was younger also thinking that most anyone over 40 seemed old and anyone over 60 was practically ancient. But when you get on the other side of those years your perspective can change.

In my youth girls in their early 20s were hot, but now many of them seem like overgrown children trying to playact at being adult, very much like many guys at that age do as well. In my youth I wondered how anyone could find a woman over forty attractive, and yet now I find that many women often are their most appealing when they're over 30 or 40.

I don't feel old. Yes, I need a few more hours sleep at night than when I was 25, but when rested I feel good. Yes, I have some extra lines about the eyes and a hint of grey in my hair, but I've lived a reasonably clean lifestyle and am now enjoying the rewards of that. I get my little aches and pains occasionally (and you can get those at any age) but I'm not hindered or impaired in any way. Except needing to get prescription glasses for reading now I don't require any medication whatsoever except some Advil for the occasional headache.

I get a reasonable amount of exercise although I really should eat more yet on the flip side I don't carry any excess weight and certainly don't have any sort of gut above the belt line. I'm not given to overeating (never have been) and additionally I feel comfortable eating most anything that takes my fancy. I can go on occasional craving binges, but never to excess. I like good coffee, but again I moderate my intake to about two cups a day. My only snack weakness is Ruffles potato chips--I can finish off a large bag on my own easy when reading a book or watching TV.

I keep my mind active with projects of interest as well as conversing on diverse subjects with folks of all ages and backgrounds.

And I refuse to let real life work dominate my life. I come to work, do my job, then go home and forget about it until the next day. Done. There are enough things to be concerned about in life that I now refuse to carry around shit that I can do nothing about when I'm not there.

But I can look old when I want to.

I'm a few years from 40 and I have high hopes that ST's future will be as good as the majority of ST's past.

As someone who's turning 46 in March - I must say it's nice to see that a number of us 'older' fans still hang out on this BBS. I thought I was one of the oldest folks on this board (with the possible exception of Spider) ;) Also, nice to see people aren't feeling all that old at 50; as I still dread my 'decade' birthdays. At 46 I still feel fairly young; and like others have stated, I may now take a few more hours of sleep than I did at 25; and I probably can't stay awake 72 hours staright like I did at some events in my younger days; but I can still do a good 36 when needed. ;)

Enjoy your day Warped...

I'm 47 and right now have never been more self assured, "Seasoning" has provided me a new perspective on things..and I get along with a huge range of age-groups at work and outside..everyone from teens to seniors.. my father is 75 and races cars for fun...and my relationship's never been stronger..

And TOS has been part of my life from the time I was 5...When "The Man Trap" scared the livin' crap outta me...

My turning 50 yesterday hasn't affected me. But the cold I've had for the past three days has left me feeling wiped out. Thankfully today I'm finally beginning to feel more normal.

Over the past few years I've been accused of being narrow minded in not embracing anything new in Trek that's come along and being unfairly dismissive.

Trek is a collection of individual TV shows, movies, etc. with a common brand. I see nothing wrong with liking some products of a brand while disliking other products of the same brand. If that's narrow-mindedness, then color me narrow-minded, too.

And I refuse to let real life work dominate my life. I come to work, do my job, then go home and forget about it until the next day. Done. There are enough things to be concerned about in life that I now refuse to carry around shit that I can do nothing about when I'm not there.

That's a great attitude to have. I'm still trying to evolve to that point.

Fifty is great! You start getting senior discounts and can join AARP. (At only 48, I'm still waaaayyy too young.)

Happy Birthday!
