A thing I had a problem with (spoilers)

I assumed that Spock meant for him to land at that outpost but something knocked the pod a few degrees off course. 14 KM isn't that much, I don't think that was the plan.

And anyway, if he'd followed directions and just called the base he would have been fine. Monsters? Kirk's fault, not Spock's!

It was a bit dumb, for sure...but was it as difficult to believe as Kirk landing on not only the same planet as old Spock, but also within 200 or so metres of him? Then out of the entire 360 possible degrees, electing to run in a precise trajectory towards Spock's cave?

starfleet survival training would have taken them to the same place maybe

Don't forget, the Pod computer tried to tell Kirk to remain in the Pod until he is picked up by Starfleet.

It did? I missed that, thanks for clearing that up, its not so bad then. Still extreamly irresponsible of Spock though.

Well, this could be an incident that contributes to (this) Spock not wanting command. At that point in his life, he may know he's too much of a ticking time bomb with his emotions.
I mean the whole incident is irresponsible. Doesn't he leave his command to save his mother? What ever happened to the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?
Maybe we're unfairly comparing his actions to what a more mature Spock (one we know better) would've done, too.

There is a lot of this going on in various threads and fora. Even the younger Spock in The Cage did not show the control and maturity of the Spock we all grew up watching.

It wasn't dangerous at all unless he got out of the pod like the computer told him not to. After that, it's on him.

One of the film's WTF moments which contributes to my opinion that the plot was weak, but everything else about the movie was good, so I'll take it in stride as long as I get all the Kirk/Spock/Bones/Scotty wisecracks we got.
