A Roseanne revival? Really??

I really enjoyed both episodes, especially the first act of the first episode with just Roseanne, Darlene, and Dan. The chemistry is still there and the jokes largely hit their marks. They went a bit heavy-handed on the current events politics in an obvious case of trying to catch up, much like Will & Grace did in its first episode. Hopefully, like Will & Grace, now that the show has that out of its system (other than the ongoing conflict between Roseanne and Jackie), the show will settle down and focus on more broader issues of today.

Darlene was always my favorite so it was great to see such a focus on her, although I'm sure that won't always be the case. Roseanne and Dan are always great, too, and I especially loved how Jackie was wearing a "nasty woman" and pussy hat.

I haven't seen the ep yet. How did they handle the lottery, series final issues?

Simply pretended that they didn't happen.

Simply pretended that they didn't happen.

The lottery (as well season 9) was already explained away in the original series ending as her putting it in the story she was writing as a way of coping with Dan's death. There's a brief moment in the garage in the first episode where they explain away Dan's death (and the original ending) as being another one of her made up stories.

It was head and tails above most of the other TV revivals that have surfaced recently. There didn't seem to be that much political stuff though. The stories were a little predictable but it is a sitcom, after all. I found it interesting that they don't mention Trump or Hillary by name.

I like the idea of having a "Love each other even if you disagree on politics" message, but if they don't acknowledge the extremity of Trump's positions, it falls flat.

"A temporary ban on all Muslims entering the country, just until we figure out what's going on."

That is a commercial Donald Trump ran while running for president. If you support Trump, and do not acknowledge that you AGREE with this commercial, and that you would even consider for a split second banning an ENTIRE RELIGION from the country which was the original one to be founded on freedom of religion, you are lying to yourself.

I assume all Trump supporters agree that all Muslims should be banned from the country unless they tell me otherwise, because he chose to run that commercial, and right afterward, his poll numbers skyrocketed. If they can't even criticize him on that, there's no conversation to be had.

The first two episodes were great! I really liked that they recreated the opening. It was nice having Lecy Goranson as Becky yet still have Sarah Chalke in the show too.

A few questions though. Where is Jackie’s kid, Andy? Dan mentioned that Darlene is gay. If that’s why she and David divorced then it’s art imitating life because Sara and Johnny briefly dated before she realized she was gay.

Maybe that's an inside "joke," since Darlene said she wasn't gay.

I liked the jokes on the two Becky actresses looking alike, could be same person.

I loved them. They felt a little weird, but the political stuff wasn't as bad as reviews made it. Some of the camera or acting was off to me, hard to explain. The 4th wall jokes were great. I was actual;ly hoping for more of a fight between Jackie and Roseanne over the election.

They explained that Dan did die in this book Roseanne wrote.
I think they also mentioned the restaurant, but maybe they don't work there anymore, just owners.
I could have used a lot more of D.J., he was barely used at all.
Darlene isn't gay. That was a joke about a mini late night clip with Dan and Darlene watching TV.
Jackie's child won't be seen as they only have 9 episodes and wanted to show the main cast as much as possible.

I can't wait for Roseanne and Jackie to see their mother again. Those episodes will be wonderful.

I watch TV and movies to escape the BS of the real world, which includes the unsettling current political climate. If it was just a little jab here or there I probably would've been able to tolerate it but what they did in the part I saw was cringingly off putting to me.

To be brutally honest even if the political stuff hadn't have put me off I have a feeling I probably won't have watched more than maybe one or two episodes anyway. The part of the first episode I saw was just a bog standard bland unfunny sitcom with an unnatural sounding cackling studio audience. I just sat there stone faced until I eye rolled at the "Fake News" joke when Roseanne and Jackie were political bickering and turned it off .

Man.. when the title music went on and the show title appeared i hollered

This was one of my favorite shows growing up (born 75, grew up in the 80s and 90s) so news about the show returning was big for me and they delivered.

I could have used a little less politics in the first half of the first episode (i'm getting really tired about US politics and "him") but they went past it to delivery a really good opening for the new season.

Roseanne Barr and John Goodman are still killing it and i liked the new family dynamic, Sarah Chalke's camo was fantastic too

It's always a tricky thing to revive a once famous and beloved show but they did a really good job of moving on yet still keeping the familiar.

Wow! I bet ABC is ready to order at least two more seasons at this point. NBC ordered two more for Will & Grace with less ratings.

I loved both episodes. I laughed just as hard as I did when watching the original show. They addressed the issue of Glenn Quinn (Mark Healy, Becky's boyfriend/husband on the show), who passed away years ago. So Becky's a widow, and Darlene is divorced from David. I'm glad Dan's back, because I missed him! He has always been my favorite character. I think everyone looks great, the dialogue is good, the jokes are still cracking, and it feels like nothing has really changed in a bad way. So I would rate this as a success so far.

Did anyone notice that Mark’s teacher was Darlene’s teacher? It was an episode where Darlene was barking in class.


I really liked the new episodes. It got a bit political but then again every family discussion I’ve had in the last couple of years had gone the way of theirs in last night’s episode.

DJ’s daughter is just too adorable.
