A Roseanne revival? Really??

I kind of get why Trump appealed to some people. Politicians suck, and he seemed like not a politician. We're all frustrated with politics, he seemed to some people like the opposite of that frustration.

Also look from the perspective of a person with conservative views, they're used to popular culture telling them they're backwards, stupid and racist that all reports of a republican being backwards and racist sounds exactly the same to them, at the same time supporting people who are openly corrupt. Liberals cried wolf, and now the real wolf is President.

Let's just admit it, we have been smug dicks to people who disagree with us.

I think all left leaning people should sign a pledge: If you admit that Trump is a racist homophobic wannabe fascist, we will agree not to be a dick about it. We won't gloat, we won't say we were right the whole time or in any way act superior. We will just move forward.

I've met plenty of anti-gay and anti-trans people who are much bigger anti-gay and anti-trans bullies than Trump and Pence, but they don't have any sort of government power.

Pence wants to electroshock the gay away, that's pretty high. Which is more my point. I don't care about liberal or conservative, it doesn't matter. It's the wealthy verse the rest of us. Just look at the Indiana primary, the 'democrat' who won spent $70 million dollars to buy the primary, Mrs Clinton bought the DNC to rig the primary. It's corrupt wealth vs common people, neither party is on your side.

But Roseanne the character was hugely pro-gay in the 90s and in the first episode is hugely a Trumpster. Then the second episode deals with her defending her gender queer / gender fluid grandchild and according to reviews doesn't mention that Trump wants to ban trans people from the military for not reason other than he's ignorant.

I don't give a shit about politics on TV, just be funny, but also consistent; even if it's 20 years later. I hope they handle it a little less over the top than Will and Grace's return.

This is kind of how I feel. Every mean tweet or Youtube video just confirms in their minds what the Foxnews propoganda machine has been saying about liberals, forever. Of course many of them will support someone who slams the very people who keep calling them names and making fun of them. It doesn't even matter if the insults are worthy or not. People just don't like to be insulted and if they are they will respond. Someone has to be the bigger man and stop the cycle even if it means biting your tongue at times with stuff people say you don't like. It's why I think most criticism should always be aimed at those in power. People should also try and find things they agree on and work from their instead of just instantly targeting the worst things about a person.

On that most people will readily agree.

During and just after the election I was reading on forums and video clips how, amongst other issues that the Left was giving a free double standard (since then the articles "It's okay when Democrats do it" have cropped up a few times, which is interesting), the red states were just a bunch of farmers ("dumb", "worthless", and so on.) The usual newspapers and magazines with headlines of "How can __ million people be so dumb" seems to be a few million short, or is the correct number but not all the accurately defined people were in the tally. Lots of people from "the Left" also left the Left, but right now the Left thinks they'll win 2018 big time "just because", all while forgetting previous election years' losses. So there is a disconnect. Looking at the big picture, I also surmise 2020 might be a shock to Democrats, depending on a few possibilities.

FOX isn't the worst of media outlets. Nor the best. There are also plenty of left-wing sources that vilify the right-wing and put out propaganda as much as FOX vilifies the left-wing or puts out their own propaganda. The ostensible "golden age of Cronkite" are long gone. And some people who've lived one side and especially if they corroborate "propaganda" as being "actually what it is" from personal experience only proves that one cable outlet whose most popular shows get only 3 million viewers can only do so much or little, not to mention how it's funny how right-wing FOX lets Lisa Simpson say as much as she does too. :D

Don't believe me? Just watch 'em all - after putting personal bias to the side. Who doesn't have a narrative? Nobody. Nor is any of this even remotely new since that old dusty phrase "the truth is in the middle" has existed for how many centuries now? Even repackaged as "two sides to every story", "the three types of truth", (person 1's truth, person 2's truth, THE truth - or relative truth vs absolute truth and how the latter is defined, etc), etc, etc, etc, amounts to the same thing.

If nothing else, in 2013, the ALCU applauded an Obama law allowing propagandizing in the media. Why not, if FOX and others were doing it for so many decades already? (So it all amounted to nothing, editorial shows have existed for a very long time...)

Gotta say I appreciate these very reasonable posts, folks. Welcome change from what I'm used to reading on Facebook and other forums.

I basically hated both candidates, but I disliked Hillary more, and just couldn't stand the thought of another Clinton (or another Bush) in the WH. We don't need dynastic rulers here. I didn't know as much about Trump, but he was the "not Hillary" candidate, so I held my nose and pushed the button. I'm sure not happy about it, but I'm also sure sick of being excoriated for making a choice that was made distasteful from the moment both sides picked their candidates.

I was thinking the same thing, that these were very nice, calm posts about politics.

Personally, I voted for Gary Johnson, so don't blame me ;)

Well said Forbin. We need to stop seeing the country as conservative vs liberal. It's really us, the commoners vs them, the rich elites. Conservatives and liberals both share the same views. 60% of the country doesn't care about gay marriage, 65% of the country wants pot legalized, 90% want actual decent background checks for guns. But most of all we share the needing of a decent pay for jobs, health care that doesn't bankrupt us or kill us. Those are things both 'sides' share.

Don't blame me I'm from Massachusetts, and voted for Jill Stein. Oddly enough in 2012 I was one of 49,000 people who voted for Roseanne.

I sure wanted to, but, ya know, snowball, hell, etc.

That's who I voted for. He was my Governor for two very successful terms and thanks to him, our budget was in a surplus when he left office... Of course Bill Richardson took care of that in a hurry and we soon saw that surplus reverse itself. Sigh... His foreign policy goofs aside, I think he would have done some really good things, fiscally...

Is this thread.... still about the Roseanne revival?

Has there been any indication on how they will handle Dead Dan yet? I am guessing they will keep him on set and in many scenes but he will only appear and talk to Roseanne to make it seem like he's in her head. I just don't see them retconning the infamous lottery season.

But they retconned the lottery season in the lottery season. Having Dan be dead and a ghost is an interesting theory, but I think that the simplest explanation of the retcons running deep in this revival is the likely one.

I think the season will end wth Roseanne writing a alternate version of the current season she has with her family and then when she comes out of the basement we find out she died instead of Dan all those years ago and ghost Roseanne has been stuck on earth writing fake books about her life for decades now. She is now been haunting the house for 80 years and everyone is all dead but she is in denial and refuses to crossover and goes back into the basement and starts writing again and her memories of what she just saw fades away and you suspect that she has been experiencing the truth for years and years and never accepting it..

The old magic is (mostly) still there. The only real criticism I have is the Rosey and John were using overly loud stage voices. Yeah, they yelled a lot during the old show, but this seemed... faker, for want of a better word. I'm guessing they'll get back into the groove soon enough. Otherwise, it was like old times.

Well they are older. The hearing goes as you get older. :) I haven't seen the ep yet. How did they handle the lottery, series final issues?
