A question for Rescue Me fans re: season 5

Okay, quite specific but hopefully some people can answer. :)

I loved Rescue Me, but it went down hill massively in season 4. I thought it was really bad in fact.

Season 5 I see is done now, two year gap... I just want to know is it better?

I fear going in with high hopes, and having them dashed.

The last season is different. There's no real storyline thread or theme to carry through the season. There are a lot of multi-episode storylines for each of the characters, but for the most part it's a lot of random everyday stuff about these firefighters, sort of a "this is what happens during their day" feel.

Season five is very mixed. There are individual scenes and set pieces that are excellent, perhaps the best material you'll have the chance to see on TV. But they're few and far between, and the rest of the year is rather abysmal.

It wastes a lot of time with a love quadrangle (this being Rescue Me, between Tommy and three other women) that goes nowhere. The cliffhanger might be worthwhile, if there was even a chance Leary would go through with it. But he won't, so it means nothing.

I don't suggest season five. The show was best in seasons 1-2. Season three was average, and I never saw season four (but if season five is better, count me out).

I thoroughly enjoyed seasons one thru three. Season 4 was okay.

But, you can tell season 5 was an extended season. Plot threads that could have been resolved over one episode took two to five episodes with a shitload of filler thrown in. Pointless musical numbers, plots that disappeared and were never mentioned again were a common occurrence. Plus, the ending is ripped straight from a finale of the Sopranos.

That said, the season was very random with a story that seemed to have no idea where it was going. I'm really hoping season 6 goes back to a 13 episode season because I don't think I can take another season like 5.

Season six is going to be the last one, but it's being split up over two years, so it's a full order of episodes.

What was the whole point of the 9/11 story, anyway? There was the French woman, and the tape with Tommy's cousion on it, but it never seemed to go anywhere. And by the second half of the season, it was seemingly dropped completely.

Thanks guys. I will probably watch it at some point, but I'll go in with low expectations, which I think will help.
