I just found out that the founding father of Singapore is named Lee Kuan, he's in the news today, he's stepping down after ruling for 46 years.

Trivia - What TOS episode is this relevant to?
Puzzle (well I'm puzzled) What motivated the TOS writers to use his name?

I know the episode, I'd always thought his name was fictional. Now I'm curious if there was a deliberate reason to use it in this episode. Anyone?

Lee Kuan shares his name with Lee Kuan Yew, the first Prime Minister of the newly independent Singapore in the 1960s. He established a hybrid form of governance with democratic and authoritarian elements.

Quite likely, "Lee" and "Kuan" are extremely common Malaysian names, too.
