^Glad you like the av! :) I took the goggles from a Pitch Black still, and was surprised that the lighting on them and O'Brien's face matched up pretty well.

I'm going to try and see CoR this weekend, opening day if possible. The visuals in the trailers and TV spots give me shivers and look really spectacular. I hope the story measures up, but I haven't been disappointed by any of Twohy's movies yet.

Well guess what? I got CoR: Pitch Black today. :D Me and my g/f are gonna watch it sometime in the next couple of days and then we plan to see CoR on the weekend most likely. :D And I checked and they free ticket coupon is good at the local Silvercity theatre, so it's all good. :)

I wish I had that free ticket coupon, but I already owned the first incarnation of the Pitch Black DVD. I must say I liked the original's "alien vision" cover art better. :)

Well, I got myself a special CoR avatar for a couple of days. :) I still don't know when my g/f and I are gonna go see the movie. Maybe this saturday, but it depends on the box office it'll do today, cos if it's really good we might wait a couple of days.

Man, I should've left work early today & caught Chronicles. Oh well, guess I'll see it sometime soon  I still haven't bought any versions of Pitch Black on DVD, but I guess I'll decide on one soon. I imagine the new version has more features than the old ones, but are they worth it? BigFoot, give us your report on the new one when you're done.

So, what're our avs saluting next?

Well, I don't own the original version of the DVD so I can't compare the two. I also haven't watched any of the extras yet, but they do seem relatively interesting. I can however say that the movie looks amazing and it sounds sweet aswell. We listened to the DTS track and wow! It was just amazing. IMO both the picture and the sound deserve at least a 9/10 if not more. :) And you do get a free ticket for CoR with the DVD, so if you want PB and if you want to see CoR, now is the time. :)

According to a review at dvd.ign.com, the new version of PB isn't much different than the first issue. Same video transfer, and extras of limited watchability. So I definitely won't double-dip in this case. :)

I'm heading out to see CoR in a little while. The reviews haven't been that great, but I'm not that discouraged. I've really liked a lot of movies that have gotten a bunch of crappy reviews (Equilibrium and Event Horizon, to name a couple). I'll report back after I've seen it.

^ Yeah, I watched the extras on the CoR: Pitch Black DVD yesterday and I was disappointed. Cos before, when I was just going through the menus, it seemed like there was a lot of extras. But you don't really get much. A short introduction by David Twohy, a couple of shots from the game, a couple of shots from the anime, a log from Johns that describes how he caught Riddick (in very little detail) and a short Making of Pitch Black feature which was way too short and that's about it. There's a couple of other bits that I haven't checked out yet, but it's not much. I'm still happy with the DVD cos I really like the movie (I actually think I liked it more then second time through), but I wouldn't suggest getting this release if you already have the original DVD release. If you don't though, it's a good movie with a good transfer and sort of lacking extras. Oh yeah, there's also an audio commentary, I think it's by David Twohy (I finally know how to properly pronounce his name!:)) which I plan to watch at some point. :)

Just got back from the movie, having braved another wave of thunderous Midwest weather. It did cool things down a bit, though.

Here are my spoiler-free thoughts on the flick:

The trailers in front of the movie were EXTREMELY weird at my theater. Maybe in some other dimension it would make sense to show teenybopper previews like Sleepover and Princess Diaries 2 in front of a scifi/action movie, but it sure didn't in this one! At least at the end there was a cheesy/cool trailer for Alien Vs. Predator that I hadn't seen before. Should be a mindless fun kind of movie, but I'm still not sure whether I'd see it before it came to DVD. Anyway, back to CoR.

The movie did some things well, and some things not as well as I hoped. Visually, the film was terrific, as the trailers have shown. Lots of cool costumes and bizarre architecture and prop design. The planets looked fantastic, truly alien and weird. Riddick was a true badass once again, and got to dispatch a hell of a lot of adversaries in some nifty ways.

I wish there was a little more background and development of some of the characters and races (maybe some of this info got cut from the film) and some elements of the story were vague and never really explained, like the "Lensers." The middle portion of the movie dragged a bit and stayed in one place too long.

The editing of the fight scenes was VERY frenetic and choppy, and it was very difficult to fully appreciate some of the moves Riddick does to take down his opponents. Hopefully they'll appear clearer on the DVD with a smaller screen.

The ending was pretty cool, and opens up some interesting possibilities if Universal allows more Riddick flicks to be made. And because of that semi-cliffhanger, the movie doesn't really seem as resolved as it should be. If I was sure Universal wouldn't freak out if CoR doesn't do spectacularly this summer, I'd be fine with this ambiguity (temporary though it would be pending future Riddick installments).

In the end, it's definitely worth seeing, just don't expect a masterpiece. :) ***/*****

Hi guys!

I need your help! :)

Well, as you guys all know, I post on a Sims-related message board (that is where I do all my contests and stuff).

On this board, when you reach 1,200 posts, you have to pick a customized title for yourself.

I reached 1,200 posts the other day, and now they want me to pick a title. And I have NO idea what to pick. On that board, I'm getting more visible because of the contest houses I've done...but overall, I'm a very happy regular poster who is VERY content to not be involved with *anything* related to board administration. :D  I use a different username than here, but from my username, anyone who knows anything about Trek or Farscape would know that I'm a fan of both. :)

Anyway...I need help picking a title. So I'm asking you guys. Here are some examples of some folks' titles, just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:

"(board name)'s Resident Techie"
"I'd Rather be Decorating"
"(board name)'s 9999th Download Junkie"
"(board name)'s Divine Drama Queen"
"(board name)'s Goddess of Creativity"

Okay...so you get the idea. ;)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

^Welll.... I personally like "I'd Rather Be Decorating" or "(board name)'s Divine Drama Queen", but maybe that's just me ;)

Vash, you certainly don't seem like a drama queen to me, so that just makes that title even funnier.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts on the Pitch Black DVD. I'll probably just go the cheap route & get the original off eBay or something.

I saw CoR late last night. Yeah, great eye candy (special effects, and some Thandie Newton :p), and Riddick whoops butt spectacularly. I can understand where Montresor's coming from regarding the fight scene at the end, and I think they were trying to wrap up the film quick to avoid it getting too long at that point. I hope they can add back some stuff in the DVD, if there's anything to add (maybe some more angles on Riddick's fighting style, etc).

I didn't think the middle sequence was that boring, mainly cause I think they were trying to show more Riddick & less the big Necromonger battle. (this might be a minor spoiler)Fact is, this movie is more about Riddick, and he cares much more about the girl he's gone to find than he does about anyone's war. I like that part personally. It also makes me wonder what makes him so "evil" - has he really done anything diabolical, or he just refuses to let anyone get over on him?

Anyway, the end is a blast, especially to see the look on Riddick's face  I'll have to catch this one again. I'd like to see that Aliens vs Predator trailer again too. Looks like they're trying to throw in something with a "grand" feel, but it should at least be cool to watch. There wasn't any teeny-bopper trailers AFAIK, but then I tend to block those kinds of things from my mind ;)

Well I finally got to see CoR tonight and I liked it a lot. It wasn't a brilliant movie, but I think that for what it was, it was well done. I really liked all the different worlds, they had a really cool feel to 'em. Like everyone has already said, visually the film was just amazing. I thought Vin was great again, he does such a great job of playing Riddick. :) And I absolutely loved Alexa Davalos' Kyra. I loved that girl on Angel (Gwen Raiden) and I loved her in CoR. And unlike Thandie Newton, she can actually act (and she looks a lot better too). :D
There were parts of the movie I didn't perticulary like, especially that bit with those things that were probing Riddick's mind. It had a very Minority Report feel to it. It was cool to see Toombs again (he was in the CoR anime Dark Fury), and it was also nice to see Imam again. :) Hmmm, what else...I really wanna know more about the world of CoR. I wanna know more about the Furyans, more about the necromangers, and more about the Elementals. While I do agree that some parts about them were hokey, I also think it was still a very worthy effort. They tried to establish a unique and complex world and I think they succeeded on more counts, then not.
I really really hope we'll get a sequel to this, cos like I said, I'd love to see more of the CoR world. I found it very interesting and quite unique, for the most part. I do hope they improve on some of the dialog though. While Riddick's lines were usually good and fun, some of the lines the villains had to say just sucked. I mean come one, the day of the days? UGH! :)
Yeah so I'm gonna stop rambling now, but I have to say that after seeing CoR I appreciate Dark Fury a lot more. I think anyone that likes both Pitch Black and CoR should check it out. :)

I BEG to differ! ;) Anyway, what part did she play on CoR, so I can remember and beg to differ that she was someone who could "actually act"

I want to see Dark Fury to see if it explains more about the world(s) and situations that led up to CoR, but it sounds like you didn't get that from the anime. Oh well, I look forward to seeing it anyway.

^ kev seems to be out, so I'll get you one. :) And I'll get one for myself aswell. :D

^ She played Kyra. :)
I was wondering if that's who you meant. Eh, she was passable :p

Welcome TimmyWl, hope BigFoot got ya a beer to your liking. Heck, here's a whole keg, I might be out for a while again!

^ Passable? UGH!!!!

Kev, I'm not sure if you're an Angel fan or not. Well one, if you're not you should check out the show. :D And two, Alexa Davalos plays just hottest character ever in S4 of Angel. The character's name is Gwen Raiden and yeah...she's cool. :D

Oh man, not ANOTHER show I need to see :p :D Honestly, Angel in my mind probably suffered from me not liking Buffy at all. I've seen a couple of eps off & on, but not enough to really keep me interested. Incidently, I was ready to write off Firefly before ever seeing an ep just cause it was from "the creator of Buffy & Angel". But I just had to see how they were gonna do a sci-fi western (and what was replacing my beloved Dark Angel  ;)). I'm glad I tuned in  So Josh get's one bright star for Firefly. Don't push it
