Yeah, I have a copy of the first print of Lives of Dax (before the new gold cover with the DS9 Relaunch designed logo). I can't exactly remember when I read it because I was reading a blitz of DS9 then (certainly after the Relaunch started though). But I thought it was a great read. Now that I have the DVDs, I can see these characters as portrayed on TV. I can already remember the story of the first host - Lela, and I think it matches Nana Visitor's portrayal of her.

Hi guys! I'm back! :D

Had a great time in Chicago...but I'll tell you all about it in the morning. Right now, I'm going back to bed. I'm absolutely *exhausted*.

Welcome back! :)

*whispers to BigFoot*:
Has anyone told her that we accidently destroyed the Orlando Bloom posters she had up in here?

:p

**hide the stash! hide the stash! Steven, shh!!**

Um, hey Vash! Great to have you back. We kept the place spic & span just like you like it! Yeah ;)

Okay, guys...I've pretty much caught up on RL and the BBS now...so I wanted to tell you a bit about my weekend in Chicago.

First, the Buffy convention was pretty cool. David Boreanaz was pretty doggone HOT, if I do say so....and he is actually a pretty fun guy - not nearly as brooding as Angel.

I'd never been to a convention before - of ANY kind...and so this was an interesting experience - meeting the stars, getting autographs, etc. It was pretty cool. :)

On Monday night, I saw Troy with Top 41 and jkladis, and that was alot of fun too. Orlando, as usual, was exceedingly HOT. And say what you will about the man, he can shoot an arrow! :p

The movie itself was okay. I think I liked Pirates of the Caribbean more, to be honest...but Troy was decent. Got a little long in the battle scenes...but then, my one suggestion for LOTR would have been "Less Orcs; More Orlando". :D

Overall, it was a fun weekend. Chicago is a great town, and I met a fair number of BBS folks, which was pretty cool.

Hope you guys had a nice weekend!

*skipping past the noxious Orlando & David parts...* :p

That's cool, did you know they were gonna be there & plan to hook up? Glad you enjoyed your first convention!

^ They live in Chicago, kev. I stayed with Top41, actually.

Now I just need to get you and Sakrysta to visit *me* for a Babylon 5 marathon! :p

Okay, I'm going to do it today. After 5 months of procrastination, I'm going to send in the rebate for my DS9 DVDs. :p

Good to hear that you had a fun trip Vash. :)

^Wow man, that took a while! I got mine a couple weeks ago I think. It probably got spent the same day :D

I'm about ready to see B5 too. With these rising gas prices, I might have to hold off a trip right now. I think I saw a guy removing his arm and giving it to the cashier yesterday. The cashier was like, "I'll need a leg too"

Wow, good thing you're doing it today instead of waiting another few months. :D

Happy Friday fellow niners. Is anyone going to go see Shrek 2 this weekend. I would like too, but I have to study for bloody finals. Hey, at least next week at this time I will be on summer vacation.

Hey Vash, you said you went to Chicago? In a few weeks, I'm going to the midwest. Anything good to see, such as any fellow members I should finally meet.

:p

I was going to pick up B5 season 1 yesterday, but of all the stores I went to (2 Best Buy's, 2 Future Shop's, and a Wal-Mart), only one of them had a season 1 on the shelf. And when I picked it up, something inside of it rattled. And that was the only one they had out, so.... :borg:

The search continues.

(Or I might just say "screw that" and order it online :p)

^ Yeah...you gotta be careful with the B5 boxed sets. The disc holders are very high quality (much stronger plastic than Trek's)...but they seem a bit loosefitting to me. ;)

Whew! What an evening of bad weather we've had in Iowa! Sheets of rain, and Almond M&M- to walnut-sized hail for a good 15 minutes. I'm glad my car wasn't outdoors tonight. And it looks like there's more on the way...

It was pretty interesting to watch, though.

^Man, that Day After Tomorrow-Miles av is REAL COOL  Probably your best yet (well, that Catwoman mask was a neat trick too... :D). What program do you use to put these together?

I saw Troy this weekend, and it was pretty good. Ah, Orlando the wife-stealing punk... sorry Vash :p  The man sure knows how to shoot a bow-&-arrow tho. Is it just me or did they try to show Brad naked as often as possible  I guess at least he was with nice lil concubines & priestesses each time ;) Boy, folks sure can make huge flicks these days. It was LOTR-huge, but some scenes - especially the troops lined up - were quite dramatic. It makes me wonder where all those people come from?

^ I haven't seen the movie yet, so I'm just guessing here, but my guess would be they come from little ones and zeros. :D

Thanks! I use Photoshop to crop and edit pictures and trailers from the movies I find online, and then use Adobe AfterEffects to lay the goggles, masks, etc. on top of my usual gif. I suppose the hardest part is finding a good picture that has the character's head in the right position, so that it's easier to match up to O'Brien's.

Glad you liked Troy. I still have yet to see any of these summer movies, though this weekend I'm thinking about having a Van Helsing/Troy/Shrek 2/Day After Tomorrow movie-thon. If I take in matinees, the cost won't be too bad! :D

Anyway, I need to get caught up before Harry Potter comes out!

About the vast crowds in Troy, it does make one wonder how many of them were CGI. It still amazes me how many real extras some of the earlier epics had. The scene from Spartacus when all the Romans are marching across the field in their dozen or so phalanxes still blows me away! I wonder how much extras got paid back then?

^Thanks! I'll have to check those out sometime. I'm looking for ways to make more animated gifs. I'd like to make my own Klingon Chef one day. Who knows ;)

Oh yeah, definitely! But man, a lot of them were really detailed. Moreso than some of the Smiths in the Matrix sequels IMO. I just wonder how many folks they filed in and actually dressed up before they decided to fill the rest with CGI.

Computer effects are a wonderful thing

Yes they are, as long as they're not overdone (Star Wars - TPM).

Anyway...today has been a good day. I like tuesdays, cos I only have classes until 12.20 anyway, but yeah, I got a lot of work done in class today. Oh yeah, I ordered The Worlds of Star Trek - Deep Space 9 - Volume 1 book last week, and today I checked the shipping status. I knew amazon.ca sent it out on thursday, so I was hoping I might get it today. But there was no update on the online tracking. Bummer...anyway, I went downtown, to go look at some DVDs. At the time, I was still undecided on whether I'm gonna get Buffy S6 or not. After walking around the mall for a while, I went to FutureShop. I caved, and I bought the set, even though I'm sort of kinda broke, lol. Anyway...then I took the bus home. Guess what, when I got off the bus, my g/f was waiting for me there. Cool huh? :D She told me I got my amazon package (the book). :D :D :D And she also told me I got a letter from my college. The usually send us useless stuff so I didn't really care. When I opened the letter, I found a check for $107 CDN in it, tuition refund. No clue why, but I'm not complaining. :D So yeah...I plan to be reading my book for most of the day, should be fun. :D

^Ahh, today was a good day for me, too! :D

I went to Target to pick up my copy of Return of the King, which went for $14.99 and you get a free 6-pack of microwave popcorn!

Then I took in a double feature at the theater: Troy and Shrek 2. I enjoyed Troy for the most part, though after Braveheart, Gladiator, and the Lord of the Rings, these mass battles are becoming a bit overused...though the rolling fireballs were very cool and reminded me of Spartacus. I really liked the one-on-one fights, especially Hector vs. Achilles. Nice choreography all around. The score, like many critics have said, was pretty weak, sounding a lot like Lawrence of Arabia and Willow, but didn't distract me all that much. The costumes and acting were all fairly good. I enjoyed seeing Brendan Gleeson on the opposing side of the actor who played his dad in Braveheart. :D Sean Bean was cool, as usual, though it's too bad they kinda rushed the Trojan Horse bit. In short, an entertaining movie, but one I'm unlikely to own. ***/*****

I was glad I saw Shrek 2 second, because it amused me a hell of a lot more. I liked it at least as much as the first movie, and I reveled in the amount of sight gags and movie references present. Puss in Boots was awesome! His "kitten-eyes" made my audience breath a collective "awwwww" :) After seeing this, I can't see how some people can complain that PDI's animation is inferior to Pixar's. IMO, they're pretty damn equal! *If you haven't seen the movie yet, be sure to stay for the first part of the credits, as there's a nice extra scene.* Bravo, Dreamworks, and I hope your future animation projects are as entertaining. ****1/2/*****

Well, to wrap up the day, I'm going to order a pizza and watch the season finale of 24. If Bush preempts it  I suppose I'll settle for watching ROTK. :D
