A Fortnight Out - What Do You Expect To See?

I expect to see an effects-laden sequence that will suggest the visual scale and style of the film, with a brief reveal of some part of the nuTrek Enterprise.

I fully expect to see something equivalent the the Terrance and Phillip trailer... ;)

No, seriously... I expect to see the trailer INTENTIONALLY omit any direct references to the fact that it's "Star Trek" until the viewer already has been drawn into whatever they're seeing... quite possible, nothing trek-specific until the last few frames.

I mean... nobody will really know that it's James T. Kirk they're seeing if they see Pine and he's not wearing a gold-and-black uniform. They'll pick up that it's science fiction eventually, but won't know that it's TREK... then, they'll finally see Quinto as Spock... and they'll know. Then, cue the title splash.

I would be very surprised if they show anything that's immediately recognizable as a Federation starship (much less the Enterprise), though we might see a clip or two on the sets, or (as suggested) an "under-construction" bit in the background.

I really expect that the trailer will focus on CHARACTER. If it doesn't... it's gonna be laughed at by non-Trek people, no matter how "awesome, dood" the SFX looks.

I expect it to be frustratingly short.

Sadly, thats what I fear.

Scraps. We'll be feeding on scraps. Probably an extreme closeup on the hull with "USS ENTERP..." or something like that.

Cue extreme outbursts of:

"The fucked with teh font!!!11!. It's not Microgramma bold extended !1!!11  "

...I expect to see Pine-as-Kirk fighting Leatherface on the bridge, chainsaw and all...

Gotta get that horror demographic.

Well, if ya want that, put him in a situation fighting back to back with Mila Jovovich (and later on, "fighting" front-to-front... ;) )

But I gotta wonder if we will get a full view of the new big E or will it be a hidden, perhaps in dry-dock, teasing shot showing just enough to drive us all nuts!

With all the secrecy, I'll bank on the teaser showing a fully enclosed drydock, and all we can see of the Enterprise, is the back end of the nacelle hanging out the back of the drydock... and the shape of that very little section of the Enterprise will cause massive anger and hatred towards JJ

"You know the greatest danger facing us is ourselves - an irrational fear of the unknown.

But there's no such thing as the unknown-- only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood..."

^I'd be surprised if we saw the *whole* ship.

I think it'd be in Abram's style to tease the merciless shit out of us until we're on the verge of spontaneous combustion.

Or orgasm.
Or nervous break-down.
As the case may be.

Actually, it'd be neat to get a glimpse of Nimoy as Spock once again.

It also needs some tag line so vague and open to interpretation that it would give the "Shatner's-Kirk-is-secretly-in-it" and/or "reboot" camps something to keep chewing on.

Edited to add: Whatever else the teaser does, I think it would reassure fans if it had the "feel" of "Star Trek" (whatever the hell that would be). But, you know, that it just "feels" right when you see it.

"Or orgasm.
Or nervous break-down."

Can it be all 3?

I think I found me a new tag line. :guffaw:

"Or orgasm...right when you see it."

Great Trek porn. At least, that's what my wife just told me.

 Helllllllllllllp me fend her off!! Where's my BSG 1980 dvds!!!?

Maybe this was covered before, but I'll bring it up here, anyway. Just out of curiosity, wouldn't the teaser have been written before the WGA strike? And what about trailers? Wouldn't the writers' strike affect the production of a trailer? That is, can copy be written for these?
Or, are those things somehow covered as part of the overall production process or advertising and exempt from the strike?

I expect to see a young boy at the age of 9 standing next to his uncle's place in Idaho, the shadow cast behind him on the barn is of the man he will become in the future.

But that's a Star Wars episode 1 ripoff? ;)

I expect to see part of the new Enterprise design, revealing it to be in the same proportions as the old canon ship, but with a more generic modern sci-fi feel. Something we've all seen in recent sci-fi movies: loads of greebles, dark grey/silver paint, generally muted tones and made of more 'industrial' material.

I expect it'll be 30 seconds of Abrams pointing at us and laughing his ass off.

Or him in his office, reading the 'Star Trek (2008)' script:

ABRAMS: Explosions, explosions, explosions...good...bit of sex, nice...humour is good, love the bit where he pisses on the Klingon's foot...wait, Klingon?
*flips to front page*
Star Trek!? I wanted Wars!
*picks up phone*
Lindy, this Trek thing? Is it too late to back out? It is? Shiiit...ah well, I can work around it. Get the designers on the line. The buzzwords are 'bland', 'muted', 'seen it before'...just tell them to watch Star Wars, alright? Oh, and while you're there, have we worked out where we're going with Lost yet?
