A Fortnight Out - What Do You Expect To See?

StarMan

Vice Admiral
Admiral
If rumors regarding the trailer are true, we're going to see at least some of the newly conceived Enterprise. Rather than discussing what you'd like to see, I'd like you all to speculate on what we *will* see.

Personally, I think a saucer section and two nacelles are a given. I doubt Abrams will be going out of his way to placate TOS purists - I expect to see a ship representing a modern interpretation of the future.

You?

I think it will be a lot closer to the design we know then most fans think. The biggest difference, I suspect, will be in the proportions. The nacelles will be smaller and inline with the saucer, and the neck will be thicker. They'll probably loose the antena on the diflector dish too.

The Trailer will show the Enterprise, a planet and a logo. Maybe a narration by Nimoy but no actors.

I expect the day after Cloverfield comes out, there will be a shaky-cam version of the teaser on the web. Someone will create a web gallery with a screenshot of nearly every frame. They will be Zaprudered down to the pixel, and someone will take them and create a collage, extrapolating what the whole ship looks like.

Arguments will ensue.

Actually, redesigning the Enterprise is much more 'out of the way' than using the existing design, so if he does go out of his way it will be in the wrong direction.

I have a feeling that this trailer is more of a metaphor symbolizing that this film, like the Enterprise, is "Under Construction". I don't think its purpose is to reveal much of the design.

Having said that, I think we will get just a "teaser" glimpse of the Enterprise. Just enough for us to get an idea of the shape, but also just enough to leave us with many questions that we can discuss (and argue about) on the internet during the ensuing months.

That's my read as well. It would be foolhardy to release the complete design now, as the speculation does far more to generate buzz amongst the uberfans than a reveal would.

I expect it to be the hideous atrocity that everyone has been describing. A ship with wings that flap, and each wing has a rotating nacelle attached to it which swings around as the wings flap and shoots phasers out.

Also, there will be something about Spock's forked penis.

I believe the new Enterprise will be presented as Fran Drescher's head with nacelles attached to her ears.

Oh, the trailer.

Something familiar enough to hook the "diehards", and presented in an intriguing manner that will catch the attention of those only passingly familiar with Star Trek.

The one guy who says he's seen it (Cloverfield's director) speaks of "scope" so I suspect this isn't your run of the mill trailer. From what he says it almost seems like a "mini movie", which is likely since this footage much like the probe footage from "Transformers" used for that teaser will likely play some role in the actual movie. We'll see something we can recognize as The Enterprise even if its somewhat skeletal.

It's interesting this trailer seems, as the Cloverfield director implies, to be much more than a mere teaser.

But I gotta wonder if we will get a full view of the new big E or will it be a hidden, perhaps in dry-dock, teasing shot showing just enough to drive us all nuts!

^I'd be surprised if we saw the *whole* ship.

I think it'd be in Abram's style to tease the merciless shit out of us until we're on the verge of spontaneous combustion.

*boom*

Oh ya, the trailer will be analyzed just like the faked Zapruder film. :D

I'm hoping the trailer will be like the unused cgi opening for New Voyages (exiting drydock a'la TMP, and touring the Sol System. Outside the warp bubble shot of the Enterprise existing warp a'la ENT- rubber band effect with white streaks added. Also seen in "In The Pikering" parody. Streaks changed to white smoke. This was dropped in favor of copying TOS opening, and during episodes inside warp bubble shots of Enterprise entering and exiting warp- objects near Enterprise rapidly zoom away or near. Current Sulu episode finally marks use of ENT exiting warp outside of warp bubble shot.), and the cgi someone sent to Paramount in 1994, and 1998 (combines TNG's and Voyager's openings.) These can be scene on youtube.

In short, top Voyager's opening cgi.

Why would I want the Enterprise to look like C-3PO in Star War Episode I?
