A Flaky Boss & Baseball

I guess my question was this: how does me wanting to participate in a possibly once in a life time event signify that I'm not committed to my job?

Even though I don't like the job, I still feel like I committed myself to do the best job possible regardless.

I can say if I was your supervisor, I would be questioning your commitment to your job. You've admitted to taking days off averaging 2 days per month. You may not look at it, but even at 1/2 days it still gives the appearance of two days per month to those around you. So lets look at it this way, 2 times per month is 24 times a years, if you get vacation add in 5-10 days. So now let's cut it back to 12 times for 1/2 days, that's still over 2 weeks extra you're taking off as 'sick' time.

You also say that she wasted 2 hours of your time, when you're out you're wasting the time of others as well. You say you're the only one that can do your job, it sounds like you're also saying they need because no one else can do it, which is frankly BS. Your boss is probably also looking at the time and cost to send out for your training, and probably thinking it would be better time money spent on someone else.

And also, you have plenty of vacation, again sounding like you're saying you have and can use it anytime you want. So you use sick time to call out with very short notice, now you're wanting to take a day off with 3 notice at the shortest, and 4 at the longest. Again, you come across as sounding like "I'm the only one that can do the job, so you have to give me my days off.".

So again, if I was your supervisor I'd be thinking you're the flaky one, and would not give you the request at such short notice considering all the 'days off' you've admitted to taking.

If your goal here was to commit to TBBS what may go down as quite possibly one of the most creepifying and wheels off posts in its history, you've come pretty damn close. :wtf:

Ummm... it was a joke.

The thing about jokes is that they're usually funny, on at least some level.

That just came across as creepy, violent, and dark; especially when all we have to go on is what's written in the post. None of the non-verbals come through, so it's hard to tell.

Perhaps in the future, for those of us who don't share your humor or are humor-impaired, you can do something to let us know you're trying to be funny.

Maybe like this:

but saying "joking".

Actually, it wasn't even a funny joke, so no forewarning would have helped that one.

Humor, it is a difficult concept for some. A joke is something said or written that makes light of a situation that is of itself may not be humorous. Is it believable that a majority of the posters on here would actually do such a thing, highly unlikely.

Perhaps an image of such of occurrence happening with large letters saying LOL would help those that have difficulty with humor.

I was also going to suggest giving her a mushroom bruise, but that would have gone over the heads of many of the posters on here.

I suppose you are committed to some degree; otherwise, why would you still be there, right? Your boss just perceived your desire to take some last-minute time off as one of the indications of your possible lack of commitment. As you already mentioned, you had to use some sick leave in the past month, plus you requested some time off for your upcoming wedding. Bosses do notice patterns of absenteeism, some more than others, and if there are personnel issues, they would like to know.

Nah. I only can name TWO Patriots players.

Mmm. Yeah. One thing nagged me about your remarks about your boss not being much of a Giants fan as you thought and how you seemed to assume I'd love to go to a Patriots event. Yanno one can be a fan without knowing the roster and going to non-game events following the team. For all you know, she was was rooting for the Giants since 1989.

Gotta throw at least a hesitant BS flag on that. One, assume he thought you were a Pats fan because you went so far as to make it your avatar. Usually kinda odd for people that don't follow the team, no? Can see where he was mis-led, at least.

And sure, you could certainly be a fan and still forgiven for not knowing the 50th guy on the roster or whatever, but how much are you really following if you can only name 2? Brady and who? Welker? Gronkowski? Branch? Wilfork? That's 5 I'd think you couldn't avoid if you watched even a game or two.

if you can't even get that far, are you rooting for the team, or just checking to see if they win, and bragging about the team?

Are. You. Serious??? I previously had an avatar of bamboo. Did I mislead people in thnking I was a bamboo buff and capable of listing all species of bamboo?

It's possible to follow a team or a show without memorizing names

By the way, the two I know are Tom Brady and Chad Ochocinco. I watched several games this past season.

Yes, I'm serious. If you put up a sports team avatar, the natural assumption people are going to make is that you have at least a passing familiarity with the team. why is that shocking? Is the argument that it's a bandwagon thing, and you really don't know anything about the team you've chosen to be your avatar? Not the way I'd go...

Honestly, you can't name Welker or Gronkowski after watching several games this season? Welker's been the most prolific receiver in the NFL for the past several years, and Gronk set new NFL records for Tight Ends. You may have also noticed a bunch of stories recently about a giant guy with a hurt ankle?

Again, not saying you should be able to tell me how many catches Tiquan Underwood has this season, or what Aaron Hernandez's YAC (yards after catch) was this season, but if you can't even identify the names of the two guys that scored like 75% of the points for the team, how much did you watch?

Know who the homeless-looking guy in the ripped up hoodie on the sidelines is?

Since subtlety seems to be missing the mark:

Joking or not, suggesting mushroom bruises and entrapping someone in a sexual harassment/ assault situation are not appropriate for discussion in Miscellaneous.

Future comments of the sort may result in infractions. We're officially done here. Any future comments can be directed to PM.

^^^thats like saying people who have passing (how would you define "passing" tho)familiarity with DS9 would be able to say who's Nana and Siddig without seeing their pictures. I'm betting many don't.

It would be more like they don't know who Major Kira and Dr. Bashir are.

For the record, I know nothing about the Thechnodrome other than the fact Krang and Shredder really sucked at keeping the damn thing working.

Hell, to follow up with that, how do you know OchoCinco? He caught 15 passes all year, there are Patriots players who didn't notice he was on the team, I'm sure...

I lived in Cincinnati for 3 years

You said you watched about 6 Pats games this year and couldn't name anyone other than Brady, why would I assume you could name someone on another team?

You've made your point that some fans are just pinkhats, I won't try to assume you know more than that.

I'd just like to clarify something: when I said that I'm the only one that does my job, I didnt mean it to be arrogant. I simply am the only person in my area with my specific job. We have 15 stores in the district with 3 people in my position in the district including myself...you can do the math. And I don't particularly enjoy it...I've already been called twice while I've been at this commercial shoot.

Also....yeah, if you have an avatar of a sports team you will automatically and justifiably be seen as a fan of that team. And if you're not you have no business "wearing" the avatar.

It comes across as arrogant, and to a boss that also comes across as saying "You need me, so you're not going to fire me.". And if you don't enjoy the job, find something new.
