A&E Taking Heat For Suspending 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson

The Bible is treated by >95% of Christians as a buffet; they pick and choose the morsels that support their pre-existing biases, prejudices, and beliefs and then ignore the parts that are inconvenient for them.

Especially the whole "likelihood of a rich person getting into heaven" bit.

That part gets ignored like a motherfuck. :rommie:

God doesn't hate gays. God doesn't hate me. God doesn't hate you. God doesn't hate ANYONE.

Such are the consequences of not really existing.

Batman and the Easter bunny don't hate me either.

Gotta love the old people-who-don't-want-to-associate-with-bigots-are-bigots fallacy, just for its super-sized helping of cluelessness.

I've heard similar comments in my life. "You're just as bad as they are when you attack them. Just let them be because they're set in their ways." No, a guy who still eats eggs and toast every morning, always uses the same brand of toothpaste and wears button-up flannel everywhere he goes is "set in his ways." A guy who complains about and actively dislikes blacks, gays, women, immigrants and anything and anybody that shows tolerance or acceptance of those groups is a bigot, and if you tolerate and accept bigotry you're not doing anybody a favor, the least of all yourself.

Not all tolerance is equal. Tolerating destructiveness, prejudice and stupidity just invites and brings on more of those negative traits, and burying one's head in the sand like a dumbass ostrich to get along and go along isn't a virtue.

Hey now, you can't call him a prick. Because if you call someone a name that fits their actions then you are automatically one yourself.

I think we need to get right to the heart of the matter and solve the problem once and for all.

Why not just hire Dick Cheney to go hunting with these guys?

I'm honestly not surprised by any of this, given that you're dealing with a family from Louisiana that's likely pretty darned conservative. Of course they might just say something offensive to people in other parts of the country. I'm sure A & E had this plan in place from the beginning.

What ever do you mean? They had this whole PR thing right before the new season starts up? No! Shocking!

Like someone else said I'm sure they said a ton of horrible things and they were ended out.

Has anybody been to their local Walmart(s) since this story broke? I wonder how much the company is taking advantage of the controversy to peddle their corporate supply of Duck Dynasty merchandise and get people through the front doors to snatch it all up. The stuff was visible and popular long before Phil's comments made the headlines and I can only imagine that the existing products on their shelves have been raided left and right.

There might be very little DD merchandise left by now, and what with it being just a few days until Christmas that probably added to the rush.

Hey kids! Hope you guys like crap!

Our local Walmart has it all over the place right now.

Is it displayed in obnoxious fashion as you walk into the store? I'd like to think I know my Walmarts after all these many years....selling popular and controversial merchandise in an obnoxious fashion and on big, gaudy displays as you stroll through the front doors is a ninja-level skill for many of them.

I was in Walmart just a few days ago but I didn't even think to pay attention for DD merchandise or displays. There might have been some set up in the highest-traffic areas of the store.

Lost the link, but there was an article I read a couple days ago that said that A&E knew of the family's conservative beliefs and of Dusty's issues with running his mouth and had it in their contract with the family that they had to behave so long as the show was filming. So A&E knew, slapped them with a morals clause, and then used it when one of them stepped out of line.

There were big displays right as soon you walked into the store, and there were a lot more over by the sporting goods section.

Our particular, respective regions of Ohio and Virginia are probably considered prime target areas for Duck Dynasty merchandise. I imagine more than a few people have run out to buy some of it this past week and those corny action figures are probably long gone from many of their stores.

This from a Congressional candidate in a Republican primary here in Illinois:

On Friday, GOP congressional candidate Ian Bayne went all in, comparing [Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson] to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians," Bayne said in an email to supporters.

"What Parks did was courageous," he added. "What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too."

Because, sure, when we're discussing the waning days of the oppression of a minority by the group that's always had the power in this country, the bigots are Rosa Parks, and the group that historically has been persecuted are the racist white southerners. Um, yeah.

Another marathon on A&E today. They're really showing the Robertson family how serious they are taking his gay bashing!

Well, you know how it works; when someone doesn't like the answer, reframe the question.
