The real kicker is that A&E KNEW he and his family were Christians. It was NO secret what they believed.

It's possible to be Christian and to also believe in treating people equally and lovingly. ("Love the sinner, not the sin.") It's also possible to know people feel a certain way and be okay with it but have an "agreement" so long as everyone keeps their thoughts to themselves that we can make this work.

Then he goes and talks. Which makes his employers (A&E) look bad at which point the agreement between the two is compromised.

A minor celebrity? It's been a number 1 rated cable show. That's why this story is national.

It's not quite #1. Anyway he's still a minor celebrity given that he's hardly raking in million dollar+ salaries, getting red-carpet walks and limo rides and is known by pretty much everyone on sight.

No, actually, A&E looks like a tolerant, even handed employer. They had nothing against Phil's religion, or the family's religion. They knew about it. .

Yes they did know about their religion and they tried to stop them from saying Jesus at the dinner table at the end of every show when they would have a prayer. Phil Robertson (not Richards) threatened to walk off and A&E relented.

In an interview in April 2013, Phil Robertson told Sports Spectrum TV that A&E Network had attempted to cut mention of “Jesus” from the “Duck Dynasty” family prayer at the end of the show, but that he had fought them and won. “So they would just have me saying, ‘Thank you Lord for the food, thank you for loving us. Amen,” Robertson related. “So I said, ‘Why would you cut out ‘In Jesus’ name?’ They said, ‘Well those editors are probably doing that. They just think that they don’t want to offend some of the Muslims or something.”

Robertson said that he had to wage “spiritual warfare” in order to get them to tape the family using Jesus’ name. “I mean you have people with no moral compass, it ain’t there,” he concluded

Who are these "majority of Americans" you keep yammering on about? In this day, even if your show is insanely popular, you're still only drawing a few million viewers. Audiences have splintered that much in the past couple decades.

What's the headline here? "Hate mongers who watch a show about religious kooks back religious kooks when one of them has diarrhea of the mouth!"
