"Galaxy Class" ships were first mentioned in (IIRC) The Frontier in Space, way back in 1973. ;)
Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but I watched "Flesh and Stone" today and the Doctor mentioned that the Byzantium was a Galaxy-class.

There have been plenty of Galaxy class ships in Doctor Who. Off the top of my head, Galaxy class starships appeared in Frontier in Space and Trial of a Time Lord (both of which predate the Enterprise D). Then we have the Byzantium and now this ship.

And the Enterprise-D wasn't the first ship class in Star Trek with that name either-Some of the ships in the 80's Trek books (At least the older ones) had that title, too-except they were actually ships that the dialogue infers can go to different galaxies(!).

'Wikihistory' is one of my favourite SF short stories. It sounds like us, if we had time travel.

Very late to the thread, been away on vacation, finally got a chance to watch the episode. Fantastic, brilliant. Period.

- I liked the Star Trekish bridge, it actually looked really nice, futuristic, I also liked the touch interface the captain used.

- Flying fish, great idea

- The city was beautiful, the sets were great, and the CGI was well done

- The Steampunkiness was good

- The use of time travel was excellent and perfect

- Katherine Jenkins, oh my word, this is the first time i've seen or heard of her, she is a babe, downright beautiful, and a lovely voice, her song at the end melted my heart, I'm not ashamed to admit I got a tear in my eye, I loved the song

- Matt Smith is brilliant as the Doctor once again

don't really have much else to say, on its own, this is a great story, and entertaining

"God bless us, every one! (Fantastic)"

Outside of many music related videos from Katherine, THIS CNN interview is really nice.

She comes off extremely sweet in it. I actually have it saved on my home computer.

Andrew Lloyd Webber picked well.

I hate to break it to you but I think she's still going out with Gethin Jones (TV presenter) and he's just as gorgeous as her!!

I watched the special again tonight and I must say I enjoyed it even more in the comfort of my own viewing environment. Katherine Jenkins' vocal work was exquisite and brought a tear to me eye both times. (Were these songs written for the episode? Anyone know what the titles are, and might they be included on the episode's score, which I read would be coming out?)

No, no, no... This GOOD!

She's probably sick of gorgeous and successful by now. ;)

It's time for her to slum it with a mouthbreather who lives at home in mums basement airfix gluing his scabs to the wallpaper.

Sadly, most of you are probably not at all pathetic enough to qualify as that sort of boyfriend.

But tearing yourself down is much easier than building yourself up.

When I first read that Jenkins was cast I went and bought Believe which is her most recent album released last year and fell in love with her voice. Her cover of Evanessence's "Bring me to Life" is breathtaking. I re-watched this again yesterday and have to say that I wasn't very fair to it in my first post. It was fantastic. Still not my favorite christmas special but still excellent.

I had and still have no idea who she is, and not only did I not find her attractive, I couldn't stop laughing at her roots.

What's more ridiculous, dying your hair a month before you die (dying while dying is redundant surely?) when surely their are much more important affairs to get in order so that your roots grow out conspicuously at the last minute, or happenstancly merely not fixing your roots before you get placed in suspended animation and on show for possibly the next thousand years as people gawk at your poor hair care maintenance regime wondering "what was she thinking"?

I'm dead inside.

Speaking of the song, I heard the word silence and my ears perked up. Here are fragments of the lyrics that I could hear.

When you're alone,
Silence is all you know.
When you're alone,
Silence is all you (?know?).

When you're alone,
Silence is all you see.
When you're alone,
Silence is all you'll be.

Leave me a (?hundred/hungered ...... ?)

When you are here,
Music is all around.
When you are near,
Music is all around.

Put your hands,
don't take them (?aside?).

(?Greeting?) the shadow,
(?Greeting?) the shadow,
(?Greeting?) the light for your great shadow.

(?Greeting?) the shadow,
(?Greeting?) the shadow,
(?Greeting?) the light for your great shadow.

I know, the lyrics doesn't make much sense. I probably misheard half the words :P

Sounds like a mash up of that Doors song about how strangers are strange and the Sound of Music.

I wonder what sort of babies Julie Andrews and Jim Morrison would have made in they knocked boots in 69?

Anyone know what the titles are, and might they be included on the episode's score, which I read would be coming out?)
The first one (which she sings to the shark) is the well-known Christmas carol "In the Bleak Midwinter." The second has no official name yet as far as I know, was by Murray Gold, and certainly will show up on the CD.
I had and still have no idea who she is, and not only did I not find her attractive, I couldn't stop laughing at her roots.

 Guy, you remain, as always, my favorite.

Guy, take it downtown. Take it old school style to TNZ. You know you want to.

We'll see you there.
