Time travel shenanigans got them there and that does not interest me at this point. Neither does the 28th century. If they're stuck permanently in the 28th, I don't see how it's time travel shenanigans.

Not fond of this rumor, but my guess is it's true. I think they're going to show the Temporal Cold War (my and other fans' least liked aspect of Enterprise) again, as Future Guy is from the 28th Century. If they're stuck permanently in the 28th, I don't see how it's time travel shenanigans.
My guess - which is admittedly based upon nothing other than watching him being fired from multiple shows in a short period of time - is massive substance abuse issues.
The Picard show is being written as a 10 hour movie with hopes of season 2. The writers direction for the writing is to "win awards" they are hell bent on making it amazing.
I'd argue Season 2 has a lot more time travel shenanigans than this rumour.Time travel shenanigans got them there and that does not interest me at this point. Neither does the 28th century.
So basically Discovery becomes it's own Kelvin-verse that never had any relevance to the Prime timeline. Somehow I doubt it as that would erase any leadup to a Pike show, which seems likely as they've built an Enterprise bridge.Pretty sure they'll reset the timeline AND jump to the future. They'll erase Discovery from the timeline or something like that. They'll be a ship out of time, not belonging to any one era, blah blah blah
It's the Picard series. So there you go.Scares the fuck out of me. When you are writing "to win awards", it often comes off as dull and preachy.
I find that very unlikely.Pretty sure they'll reset the timeline
Why would it erase Pike show? We'll just get Pike and the Enterprise without any knowledge of his time aboard Discovery. Spock never had a sister, never grew a neckbeard. It could work.So basically Discovery becomes it's own Kelvin-verse that never had any relevance to the Prime timeline. Part of me likes the idea, it'll be interesting to see that century. However, another part of me would want a dedicated show for that century. Once you start writing about that century, it locks certain aspects in. We know what exists and doesn't exist. The general state of affairs, etc. Whatever they reveal is locked in. And, that's OK. But, I'd rather have it done because a series is set in that time period rather than one visiting that time period.
I liked how "Memory Serves" and "Valley" bridged "Cage" and "Menagerie" and made the latter more poignant, so they definitely have it in them. Seems like there are other tidbits from TOS that could be similarly mined.Though space is really fucking big and they sure couldn't figure out how to do their own thing in the 23rd.
So, wherever or whenever they are going next season, I hope they stand on their own.

To be fair, a lot of people like those reminders. George Lucas made millions on 3 movies (and a tv show) built entirely on what were lines about offscreen events in his original ones. While TOS is my favorite TV series, ever. I don't need to be constantly reminded of it. I really didn't find anything that made TOS more poignant? I got what Pike sacrificed when saving the cadets. I got the gulf that existed between Sarek and Spock.
I simply didn't need more explanations.

I don't think they were that bad, especially compared to the recent Disney movies which are worse (with the exception of Rogue One).Yes. And it was god awful.
Why did you pick the only Disney Star Wars movie I outright said was good?
Lets not compare Star Wars and Star Trek. That's like science vs religion.
I agree with you actually, although the Clone Wars did a fine job of making an enjoyable multi-season prequel show. The simple fact is that prequels limit the hell out of EVERYTHING you do. A movie or 2 you can get away with but a multi season show its a huge pain.
