9

Looks great, and I really hope it does well.

I'l be waiting for the dvd though, as I almost never go to the theater anymore.

I'll be at a free advanced screenin' on Tuesday night (at 9:09 pm), so, yeah, I'm lookin' forward to it.

I was supposed to be at one of those last night but they put it in such a small screening room that they weren't able to fit me. I was about 20 spots too far back in line, even though I'd gotten there over an hour before showtime. Heck, the line for last year's preview screening of Wanted was longer, yet I still got in to see that one.

I've had a hard time explaining the plot of 9 to people based on what I've seen in the ads. Best I can come up with is: It's post-apocalyptic and the good guys are a bunch of rejects from The Nightmare Before Christmas and the bad guys are a bunch of robots...

Whenever I see the ads on TV, the quality of the CGI makes it look more like cut scenes from a video game than an actual feature film.

I'll probably see it but I'm not in any rush. Bekmambetov & Burton both have uneven track records. Sometimes they're involved in some excellent projects but other times it's just a weird mess. At least, when they fail, they fail big & interesting.

I found it a wonderful, entertaining movie. Like a storybook that moves. (HINT: Tim Burton is one of the producers)

Finally a world that is interesting to be in, and a story that doesn't spoon feed the audience everything. It just starts. Some backstory is explained along the way, but how we got to the beginning of the story isn't important.

Fascinating, , well-realized, and even a little spiritual (without being preachy). And even though there's a lot of action in it, it's still, overall, a gentle movie.

Don't know if I'll ever see it again, but I was thoroughly entertained by it.

(NOTE: There are a few very intense and nightmare-like scenes and images which will probably scare younger kids)

Excellent. Sounds like 9 is everything I'd hope it would be (and I knew Tim Burton was involved, which was one of the reasons I was interested from early on). I look forward to seeing it when I get the chance (whenever that maybe).

The Alamo Drafthouse - Village had the screening in two theaters last night, so there was a line for Group A and a line for Group B on opposite sides of the box office. When I got to the theater four hours early, there were already about half a dozen folks in line. I went to get dinner, came back, and saw another four or five folks had shown up.

Fortunately, I had my laptop & the Drafthouse had wifi.

I was able to get in, along with my friends Barbara & Jeff, without a problem. Barbara & I even got free miniposters.

That about sums it up, I suppose.

9 wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world, and finds others like himself. One of the others he meets is taken by a machine, made of bones & metal, called the Creature. While attemptin' to rescue the one that was taken, the Machine is inadvertantly activiated, and it creates more creatures that attack 9 & the others, forcing them to take a stand against the Machine.

I was actually wishin' I could have been watchin' the movie in IMAX last night.

Saw it a few hours ago... a good, solid, entertaining film. The story and animation were fine (if not especially groundbreaking), and most importantly, I was made to care about most of the characters, who were very well-realized. Many of the action scenes were terrific.

All in all, highly enjoyable.

(Oh yeah, and between this, District 9, and the upcoming musical film Nine, it seems the number is getting quite the workout this year in cinemas!)

"9" was a wonderful movie. It has an extremely dark setting, but it doesn't spoon feed you tons of exposition to get going. We are introduced to a nightmare world and we learn as 9 himself learns.

The CGI wasn't groundbreaking, but the design was fantastic. The robots, the pseudo-WWII type setting all really struck a chord with me.

I definitely plan on buying this on DVD, and I hope that they include the original short it was based on.

I really enjoyed this. I loved the look of it, and you really care about the characters. Although I thought the ending was a bit sappy, it was definitely engaging and the soundtrack was darn good.

I'm now hoping to get a little "9" ragdoll to put on the shelf. :techman:

I went in to this hoping they wouldn't screw it up, as happens ... well, nearly every time ... with remakes. Fortunately, it was the same person behind both the original and the movie-length version, Shane Acker, and I loved every frame.

There is no question, as soon as it's available to buy on dvd, I'll have it. I hope they include the original short as a bonus on the dvd.
