I've just watched the final scene again and I have a question, if anyone knows... Clara explicitely tells the Doctor "You're the eleventh Doctor". I know the "11" motif has been used since Matt Smith took over, and of course calling him "the eleventh Doctor" is very common among fans, but I have the impression that it's quite rare in the show itself. Has it happened before, someone calling the Doctor "the nth Doctor"?
I think One identifies himself as "the first. The original, you might say" in The Five Doctors, but that's all that springs to mind.

"Oh god! Not you again!"

Clara has been screwing with the Doctor and the TARDIS for the last 1000 years.

Maybe the Doctor didn't notice, but perhaps the TARDIS did.

This was my thought as well, and the TARDIS grudgingly relented because it knew Clara needed to be near the Doctor.

And goes on to say "Goodness me, so there are 5 of me now"

Most Companions don't even know about The Doctor Regenerating until it happens in front of them, so, if a Doctor Regenerates during their travels together, typically, the Companion doesn't really know about any others then the one they started with, and ended with (Multi-Doctor stories aside).

But he doesn't say "I'm the first Doctor", right? Interesting. Was last week really the first time it ever happened? I really can't remember any other "nth Doctor" scene.

The 'psychic headbutt' scene from The Lodger involves him pointing to his face and saying "11th."

In the 5 Doctors, Davison referred to himself as the 4th regeneration, since the first Doctor hadn't ever regenerated, which is just exclusive counting instead of inclusive counting.

The Tardis was fine with Jack before Jack became a fixed point in time, so she should have been fine with Clara before she became a million splintered points in time.

Except, from the TADIS's perspective, she was still the Impossible Girl who died twice.

Clara's right. The Tardis is a jealous cow, probably because it was really Clara who picked out the Tardis.

"The navigation system is knackered, but you'll have more fun" is no different than saying of a woman "She's really dim, but that just means she won't know how talk her way out of sex in a pub toilet on the first date."

It wasn't a good start.

There is nothing wrong with the navigation system on the Doctor's TARDIS. It works perfectly fine. It's more or less stated that the TARDIS overrode the destination to take the Doctor where he was needed rather than where he wanted to go.

Well, that's what the TARDIS claims it did. But maybe its lying to hide the fact that it really actually is unreliable. It just got lucky that the Doctor got a good adventure each time the TARDIS screwed up.

LOL!

I said that to someone once.

I thought I knew what I was saying, but this was shortly after the Mel Gibson movie, so she had no idea what I meant.

The Doctor seems to be able to control the TARDIS much better in the new series than in the classic series. I guess practice (hundreds of years) makes perfect!

Or maybe it's just an old married couple that's finally come to some sort of compromise on who gets to do the driving :)
