Is that hunter guy based on any histroical figure or is he just someone made up for the story?

Well, I'm DVRing the premier (which I missed last week due to vacation) and looking forward to seeing this one in about 15 minutes. The above comments have me sufficiently intrigued.

A quick Google search didn't find anyone known for game hunting in Africa. Made up for the show, I guess.

Is the guy playing Rory's dad the same guy who played Arthur Weasley?

But, I think the Doctor's willingness to let Solomon face the missiles after his deeds will be brought up, directly or indirectly, next episode as well as Amy's comments about the Doctor's visits getting further apart.
In the clips for next time, the Doctor talks about honoring the victims of the various villains he's let go by having mercy on the villains. Amy says that this attitude is what happens when the Doctor travels alone too long.

I do like "Well, thank you, Arthur C. Clarke." and "What kind of man doesn't carry a trowel?".

For some reason, watching that scene with the triceratops, all I could think of was Jeff Goldblum's immortal comment from Jurassic Park:

"That is one big pile of shit."

Was Rory's dad Brian in the Red Dwarf Episode Pete 1 or Pete II?

I'm only asking because by that point they had joined up with the secret prison.

I still have a problem with people just hanging out the open door of the TARDIS in space. That's just so wrong on so many levels.

The Tardis has some kind of protective shielding that helps protect those from the vacuum of space.

That was more awesome than I expected it to be. Lestrade, Arthur Weasley, and Mr. Finch all in one episode!!

Well, it is for New Who. All the Companions who have left except Martha left because of some circumstances that forced them to leave. And Martha had to affirmatively end it. Amy and Rory haven't affirmatively ended it, but told the Doctor to essentially stop by on occasion. Now there are signs that they aren't going to be able to keep this occasional thing so they might have to affirmatively end it, but the Doctor doesn't seem to go out of his way to find new companions.

Anyway, I liked the episode quite a lot. I think the ending could have been framed to make it a bit less cold blooded, though.* The villain was cool, though. He looked like an old-school Tom Baker era bad guy trader (like the Ribos Operation). I also liked Rory's dad. I guess the only complaint is it's schizophrenic between light and dark. It still gets a good.

Really, they should have had him get up and try to catch Nefertiti again, so they had to shut the door to close him in.

He was Olaf Petersen, Lister's best mate from the first episode & Stasis Leak.

He was the obvious missing member (aside from Todd Hunter) in S8.

I had issue with the pacing a bit at the beginning. It seems now that they are'nt doing any two parters or having an ongoing arc, they have to rush to say what they want to say.

Aside from that quibble, I really enjoyed this episode. Sure I was rolling my eyes at some of the more sillier aspects, but all in all it was really fun. I mean how cool was it watching Amy fending off Dinosaurs on a spaceship with a futuristic tranq gun!
