7of9 instead of Troi in Nemesis

It could be sold simply as a new character for a new movie and her history with Trek wouldn't be a issue. I wonder for example how many people even knew or remembered that Khan had been in a TOS episode before they saw that movie, many years ago.

Agreed. The general viewing public who didn't remember much of TOS fifteen years later probably would have more aware of Montalban's role as Mr. Roarke in Fantasy Island.

Huh?

I thought I remembered that Jeri Ryan, as Seven, was supposed to be delivering key information to Picard, and when she turned down the cameo, it went to Kate Mulgrew as Admiral Janeway. Same info, different banter.

youd think itd be as simple at that. but its been hinted she was going to replace one of the TNG regulars (just cant see how though. think it mustve been janeway )

I remember a few years ago, Jeri Ryan herself saying that Seven of Nine's role in Nemesis was supposed to be a guest at the Riker-Troi wedding, which she turned down because "Seven doesn't know these people and wouldn't attend their wedding."
think what mustve happened is she was offered Janeways cameo (it was probably originally written as Janeway but someone mustve said hey we should have 7of9 for the Voyager character instead - maybe to even deliver the orders in person then tag along for the movie expanding the cameo into a supporting role and replacing TNG characters for various scenes - e.g Worf on the Mad Max planet, Troi as the object of Shinzons desire etc) she said no it should be Janeway giving Picard the orders. then they still wanted her in the film so offered her a wedding cameo out of desperation. and the whole thing with 7of9 replacing Troi was just something used against Marina Sirtis in negotiations

Spiner only came back with all the power he got, including a writing credit I think. It’s plausible.

Spiner's story was already a script by John Logan before cameo guests were being invited. There is no way Seven was replacing Data.

I recall the news updates of the day. When Ryan was announced as turning down a cameo in "Nemesis", Mulgrew was announced as the replacement. Of course, the new scene carried more weight coming from Janeway. There was also some cut dialogue that mentioned a revered Andorian, Meelok, known to both Janeway and Picard from their Academy days.

There was also a reference to "the evil Dr Soran" which even John Logan must have realised was just too cute.

It could have been really cool to see Seven of Nine interact with Picard and Data (probably having already initially met them offscreen in the interim) but the existing wedding scene was already pretty brief and wasted, it didn't need more characters appearing and competing for time or being wasted. And yeah, it makes more sense that Janeway rather than Seven tell Picard about/send him on a mission.

In that case, she missed out on an easy paycheck.

I've never quite understood the fan worship that Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine gets although she looked okay as a Borg! :borg:
But I think Marina is the far more attractive lady of the two! What is this thing about her being a bit loud as it were..?
