At STLV Marina Sirtis revealed during pay negotiations for Nemesis she was threatened with Jeri Ryan being in the movie in place of her
    http://trekmovie.com/2017/08/05/stl...ace-her-with-jeri-ryan-for-star-trek-nemesis/
previously Ryan stated she was offered a role in Nemesis in place of one of the regulars (didnt say who) and that when she declined was offered a cameo at the wedding which she said wouldve been quite ridiculous. (Think originally when it was learned Ryan was approached for Nemesis it was assumed incorrectly that it would've been the cameo in place of Janeway)

But 7of9 instead of Troi? the wedding scene would've been nixed probably for a scene introducing 7 to TNG. Then maybe she accompanies Picard Data Worf onto the Mad Max planet?, then Shinzon becomes obsessed with her and all the mind stuff plays out with 7? (or maybe not mind stuff but her involved her with Shinzon in some way, something to do with her Borg connection which could've tied in with Picard?), and maybe shed fight the Remans at the end with Riker&Worf (was 7 an ass kicker? idk as never watched Voyager. Still Picard was turned into Rambo in the movies so guess they'd have had no problem turning 7 into the AJolie of Trek )

Wonder if Ryan in a prominent role would've made any difference to the box office? (Theyd have probably put her on the poster like the 'Hive' cover, featured her prominently in trailers, tv spots etc).Probably not much maybe a slight increase opening weekend (maybe Nemesis would've beaten Maid in Manhattan lol)

If they had, it would have improved the movie as far as I'm concerned. Jeri Ryan can act circles around all the TNG actresses.

And yes, she's able to handle combat scenes.

^You might be completely right in all that.

But, I simply didn't like the character 7 of 9 all that much and I thought she had received enough attention in Voyager as it was. Having her appear in NEM in a lead role would have been stretching it too far, in my opinion. It was, after all, a TNG movie.

In other words, you didn't want Nemesis to become the Seven of Nine show?

Welcome to how I felt about Worf and Michael Dorn showing up in Star Trek VI. Granted, he wasn't a lead in STVI, but it was really annoying that he was there at all.

And FWIW, I agree that Seven wouldn't have fit in at all with the TNG crew.

Khan's brother Super Dave is found in another sleeper ship (The Monotony Day) by the Romulans and eventually a faction led by Super Dave takes over the Romulan Empire. Now that's Nemesis done properly.

It could have been interesting, in that Shinzon could try his telepathic link with Seven to try and get more information about Picard, since he was assimilated into the Borg. That sequence would have made more sense, as opposed to the train wreck with Troi.

Plus there could be a bit of tension between her and Picard, given she was part of the Borg, they both having commonality that way.

I could care less if the wedding sequences were scrapped. It was unnecessary to begin with, and they could have written Troi out, saying she was at Starfleet, prepping for her assignment on the Titan or something.

Given that it was Nemesis, anything done to shake up what was filmed would have been an improvement.

Agreed think Nemesis would've been at least more interesting and had abit of a Borg subplot with 7 in place of Troi

And making that Borg subplot as a means of being used as leverage against Picard could have had some nice dramatic moments, allowing the Enterprise crew to do more than be a backing band to Stewart and Spiner.

What a horrific idea. It's funny to see so many people push back against fan criticisms, then we see a near-disaster decision from the studio that confirms we should continue to hold the studio's feet to the fire.

Now that I think about the suggestions as to how Seven could have fit in, I have changed my mind. After all, they already had Kate Mulgrew in a cameo, and it would be perfectly reasonable for her to appoint Seven to the Enterprise, on a temporary assignment.

Troi and Crusher were basically pointless in Insurrection, and the only role Troi had in First Contact was as comic relief.

maybe they could've done away with Crusher and had the holodoctor instead!

I'm not sure how far this actually got, and I'm sure Berman and Spiner/Logan would have resisted. Obviously it never got to the scripting stage.

I'd always heard the studio wanted a role for Seven, but previously it was thought it was in the Janeway briefing role, which would have made no sense.

It does sound like a negotiating tactic rather than a real intention. Though Nemesis is quite interesting as a reasonably high profile, wannabe moderate blockbuster which doesn't feature any major female characters under the age of 47. That's almost unheard of. There's the Romulan commander, but she has a minor role.

Come to think of it, none of the TNG films go out of their way to feature a young female character to add sex appeal - all the TOS films do it to an extent. It's a long way from Alice Eve in her underwear in the Into Darkness trailer.

Actually, Logan was allegedly a huge Voyager fan, it was his idea to use Janeway as the admiral giving Picard his orders as opposed to Nechayev or someone actually from TNG. I can see him going along with the idea no problem.

As for Spiner, his suggestions for NEM certainly worked out (I still cringe at the flight through space to the Scimitar)

Since the movie bombed anyway, and is not terribly well-regarded, I don't think this was a "near-disaster." :)

Don't get me wrong. Given that NEMESIS turned out to be the TNG cast's swan song, it would have been a shame if Sirtis had not been included, but it's not like it made any difference in the long run, so it strikes me as kinda odd to cite this, of all things, as proof that the fans know better than the studios.

"Ohigod, the studio almost ruined that movie we don't like!"

This is Star Trek fandom. We don't have to be logical or consistent!
