She's watched the other half, while ranting that "this cheese does nothing for me, it's bad fanfic, total pants, trying to tug your heartstrings but just cheesy" - for a minute I thought I was married to Bones there...

I'd agree that there was a lot of stuff meant to be touching that I felt wasn't effective at all. Certainly I didn't get emotional over any of it. So, no, your wife isn't Bones. Just perceptive.

Oh, and I can't be the only one who figures the "river" in the "the only water in the forest is the river" quote is River Song, right? The rest of the quote makes me think of either "The Forest of the Dead" or that arboretum aboard the Byzantium in "Flesh and Stone."
"Forest of the Dead" would be more interesting.

What if River's consciousness inside CAL could influence the Vashta Narada in some way? To what end, however, I couldn't even begin to guess.

So your wife knows she has bad taste, right? ;)

I should be so lucky.

She's spot on, of course. Especially about the fanfic part. Tardis as a person is exactly the kind of awful fanwank idea that hundreds of fans have probably started writing, only to realise it's rubbish. And yet Writing God Gaiman didn't seem to.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I think she was just choosing to not be in the mood for it cos I wouldn't let her watch Eurovision instead...

Her taste in men says it all.

She loves Neverwhere and B5's Day Of The Dead, so who knows what went wrong for her with this one. Beyond Eurovision.

Let's blame Lawrence Miles.

His short story "Toy Story" has the TARDIS "possessing" one of the Doctor's companions (in this case, Compassion, before she turned into a TARDIS herself) so she could have a conversation with Lolita, the Master's TARDIS. The TARDIS has incarnated as a person before, it happened in a fanfic ("Toy Story" was written for one of the charity fanthologies), so, yes, calling it a "fanwank idea" is perfectly fine in my book.

I, for one, am going to reread "Toy Story" before watching tonight's episode.

Excellent episode, the bunk beads... well just make them bigger... and a swimming pool for diving. The whole Tardis is the Doctor's room.

I did like the similarity of speech and behavior to Matt's, I guess the Tardis and the would always be linked like that.

I have to watch again, but I believe Idris mentioned being able to archive what hasn't happened yet. I have always thought a Tardis would exist across time and space kind of like a potentiality. That kind of ability may play a hand in the finale.

Great episode with lots to love.

Poor Larry. First The Pandorica Opens rips off Alien Bodies and now this.

Still, at least he realised it wasn't worth a full novel or episode.

Ah, Lesley says her problem with this episode was that she much preferred how they handled putting the TARDIS in mortal form when they did it with Rose in Parting Of The Ways...

Eh. Seems like an easy thing to reconcile to me: Rose was holding the TARDIS's energy, but not its "mind." That wasn't the TARDIS inside Rose, that was Rose being granted the TARDIS's ability to see all of time and space.

If i remember correctly it was the Time vortex that rose absorbed, not the actual consciousness of the Tardis.

But don't quote me on that.

But Rose just gobbled the Time Vortex (not that that means anything at all whatsoever), not the Tardis itself.

How appropriate. Matt Smith was once ridiculed for his "Frankenstein" looks

Now his one true love looks like the bride of Frankenstein

"MY TARDIS?!"

The 10th doctor resurfaces. Shades of the Sarah Jane episode when the kids wanted to see inside the TARDIS.

And I assume the 9th and 10th doctor desktop theme is now permanently gone.

I did get a kick out of seeing it again. Matt Smith didn't get enough time it in "The Eleventh Hour"

That's a matter of interpretation - we've always chosen to view it as being the TARDIS who calls him "My Doctor" - Rose hasn't known any of the others, or known him for long enough... And this episode does have her use that line also.
