Why did the father let a strange man claiming to be a social services worker for his son into his flat in the middle of the night? Social workers work during the day don't they?

Well, them kind the Doctor was supposed to be wouldn't show up at night, but there are social services workers who will come anytime, mostly if the child is endangered and most times results in a removal.

I thought it was brilliant, funny, scary, intense. Great work from the regulars, especially Darvill, a nice script by Gatiss, a very convincing child actor. I wasn't entirely convinced that the director's heart was really in it, though. Some sequences didn't work quite as well as they should have.

When you saw the episode title, did you think, "EYES... IN THE DARK... ONE MOON CIRCLES"?

(remember, there was a TNG episode with the same title)

Shouldn't that have sent up red flags to the father not to let this man into the house? He could have been a robber or something worse.

Plus, he thought his wife called for him.
Why didn't he call his wife to make sure she had actually sent for one? He seemed to imply she was going to but hadn't done it yet.

The resolution was especially odd when the Doctor mentions his fear of rejection Dad responds by "How can we keep him? He' not even human.". Apparently, after saying this, he can just smash through the dolls and go and hug his son.

I think that's kind of meant to be foreshadowing of Melody, since this was originally supposed to be episode 3 but got swapped with the pirates. (which makes you wonder who'd have had the cameo in AGMGTW in place of Avery).

And no, they're not looking for Melody now, since they found her last week...

I guess so, it just feels odd after the big build-up in AGMGTW. I was expecting the Doctor to try to rescue the baby, not to leave River in a hospital two months later. I suppose there might be a future beat where the Doctor places young Melody in the care of someone in Leadworth or whatever so she can grow up with Amy and Rory.

Average episode and didn't live up to the interesting previews. I was hoping for a little more Blink/The Empty Child feel to it but it was a just well boring at times. Not sure if it beats the pirate episode for weakest episode of the season. Next week doesn't look good either based on the preview, I prefer the complicated Moffat story arc to the standalone stuff bar the impressive Doctors wife episode.

Average for me, but, I can see how a kid would love it, we've gotta let them have their episodes too.

I would've preferred for the dolls to have shown up earlier, and to have come off as more threatening.

Average from me. Found the first half really dull and tedious, but once the dolls made their appearance, and we learned the truth about the boy, it improved quite a bit.

Loved the central idea of the characters being trapped in a dollhouse, and the reason behind it all-- I just wish the writing and execution had been a lot better.

The Doctor is very persuasive. They were desperate and that his wife would act suddenly wouldn't be surprising. His wife probably couldn't be disturbed at work and they needed the money.

Take the explanation you want. This isn't really a plot hole in the Doctor Who universe. The actions in the episode is about as par for the course as you can get with the Doctor.

Your right it's not a in universe plot hole it's just one of those weird things that seems off to me for some reason. Oh well, it doesn't matter anyway the episode still sucked. I hope next week's is a good one.

God that was a bit bland wasn't it! I mean I wouldn't say it was bad, it wasn't Fear Her, it was just a bit, meh. It'll be one of those episodes like 42 or the Idiot Lantern that I don't rewatch very often.

That said maybe it wasn't for me, maybe it was for the kids and I hope it scared em! :)

I don't get it with Gatiss. I know he's a decent writer, but after four attempts he's only done one good episode of Who, and that stared Eccleston! I don't know if its his writing, or the realisation but this, much like The Idiot Lantern, seemed to lack much in the way of zip. Say what you like about Victory of the Daleks, it at least flew along, this just kinda meandered around. Like someone said 20 minutes of plot stretched out.

Of course Gattiss will no doubt be back, nice to be best mates with the show's producer ;)

I liked the slow pace. It was nice to have an episode that wasn't moving at the speed of light for once.

Yeah... it was an ok episode. Didn't hold my attention like last weeks. I really like Matt Smith with the kid, they had good chemistry, he's good with kids.

I hope it scared some of the wee ones out there, but, I probably won't be rewatching this one any time soon.

Also: as a side note, it felt odd, given the mid-season break, and last weeks episode--there's a Baby Pond out there, shouldn't they be worried about her? Wasn't this one supposed to be in the earlier block of episodes?

Baby Pond is kind of out of their hands at the moment. Actually, given that Rory and Amy raised her (kind of) and that they seem to have undone or at least mitigated her manchurian candidate programming, I think we can straight-up say "mission accomplished" there.

Well they can't find baby Pond because to do so would screw up the timeline I guess.

Not necessarily. They could get her back and lose her again... there are pics of Amy with Baby Pond.

Baby Pond is kind of out of their hands at the moment.

But, isn't that the point? That's why they are going after her? That's what the Doctor said he would do.

Yeah... but Rory and Amy don't seem like they care anymore about Baby Pond. I guess that's what last week's was about... but still...

I don't know if we can straight up say anything.
